@thinkingshivers I’d be more worried about both of you reminding the reader of Fitzgerald’s ‘careless people’ quote.

I submitted a draft of my short story to Claude for copy editing. Sometimes he’ll suggest a re-write of a particular sentence. My version: “She was just a rich girl, with a carelessness about her that could only come from being born into privilege.” Claude’s suggestion: “She was just a rich girl, careless in the way only privilege allows.” It's a matter of taste, but I personally think Claude's version is better. It's saying the same thing but more deftly. But when I swap his sentence in then plug the paragraph into Pangram, it goes from being high confidence that it's human to low confidence that it's human. If I keep doing this, will it start to read like AI slop? If I keep doing this, is it even my writing anymore? So I'm keeping my version, the one I think is worse, and I'm disquieted by the fact that there could be a better version of this story that I now need to specifically avoid.

@model_type_bre @DustyShame Funny you should say that: when he was recording her through the door, his voice and demeanour reminded me of Brian Laundrie when he was talking to the cops on the side of the road that time.

@DustyShame Yeah. I just think about like him recording their arguments and having a calm voice and how people do that to make themselves look like a victim. And him being with her while she’s a minor and her parents taking no responsibility. Just lots of factors.

I just finished watching The Crash on Netflix and Mackenzie is very guilty. Her parents need to be locked up too but the documentary seemed one sided. Dom was 20 years old. I have a hard time believing she was the only toxic one in that situation

@tracybeanz My mother (86) reckons she never had a single symptom of menopause, and actively laughs at at mocks my sister whenever she has a hot flush. It’s terrible.

WHY DON’T OUR MOTHERS HELP US UNDERSTAND PERIMENOPAUSE. WHY DID I HAVE TO DO THIS BY MYSELF? They never told us shit. Nothing. Nothing about the actual role of estrogen in like, every single neurological function. Not the anxiety, or itching or PVC’s and palpitations. Not the histamine reactions, or the pelvic floor issues, or the sore joints occasionally. They didn’t say a word about mood swings or how important progesterone is or what it does or what happens during luteal. THAT ENDS NOW. MY DAUGHTER WILL BE PREPARED, DAMMIT. Ladies, if you have a question I have become an effing encyclopedia of women’s health over the past 3-4 months. Holy shit what a disservice. Hot flashes? Ha! I’d trade 90% of this shit for hot flashes.

@John_Attridge When I was a kid in the 70s, my dad would come home pissed with fish and chips and a block of Snack chocolate and make us watch Planet of the Apes movies with him. He was a terrible dad but they were great nights.

If I was Trump I’d immediately pardon all my own crimes, get my finances in order, pack up my mates and fly off to some friendly country - just leave without warning or explanation. He’s only got a short while to live, might as well spend it on a beach.

@OfficialTozzi I asked a guy why he shoots rabbits here in Australia. He said it was to help reduce the population. He agreed that his 6 or so bunnies didn’t dent the population. Finally admitted he did it for the thrill of the kill. Almost all of them do.

Fermiamoli.

@maizie_star I used to buy my dog a little frog-shaped sweet from the local shop whenever I went there. The day after he died I went to buy milk and the lady pushed a frog across the counter, saying, ‘For your dog.’ I almost dropped dead from grief.

@TheNerdyCatLady My cat ripped the stitches out of her own flesh in the days following her spay; I took her back to the vet and he said not to worry, just watch that it didn’t get mucky or lumpy and she would look after it and be fine - and she was.

I spoke to the vet today & they're recommending Skippy to wear a cone for 2 WEEKS after her spay! 2 WEEKS?! The TNR cats got 5-6 days crated. Babygirl was spayed 2 years ago & didn't have a cone, a suit, or a crate. Nothing. I'm thinking of getting her onsies. Is this normal now?

Is it possible to boycott FedEx? Because I’m going to be honest, I don’t want any of their delivery drivers at my house, given their hiring practices. Why would you *ever* hire someone to go to peoples houses with that type of history?

If he is risen then where is he? 🤔 Doesn’t this ritual get boring every year, saying the same old stuff with no evidence? Look around the world; too much evil and destruction for there to be any basis for faith.

@taipan168 I’ve had three Mazda 2s, just drove my current one halfway around Australia with no problem whatsoever. Mazda makes great small cars but Australia prefers revolting monster ones.

Drove this brand new Mazda 3 around SW WA for a week, and it was a very nice car. Good handling, overall economy of 6L/100km, a proper auto not a CVT, managed dirt roads with ease and had a nice smooth ride on its 60-profile tyres. No idea why people don't buy more of these.
