@neso_energy And right now it’s 15.23Gw and tonight it could be 1.5. It’s variable. More turbines mean higher highs but also more backup.

On 25 March at 1:30pm, wind generated 23,880MW of electricity to set a new maximum wind generation record. 🥇At the time, wind was providing 60% of Great Britain’s electricity, that’s enough to power over 23 million homes. 🏠 Download the NESO app: bit.ly/4sKMXU8

@thisisyourparty Yes, it has been a disaster. Overseen by Ofwat. You really think letting them run it is going to improve things?

NEW: raw sewage was released into England's rivers and seas nearly *300,000* times last year. From sky-high bills to endless sewage, privatisation has been a total disaster. It's time to renationalise water.

@janrosenow You do know that is a meaningless statement? MW is a power output, not a measure of stored energy.

The first grid-scale Li-ion battery was connected to the grid in 2012. It was 5 MW. Today, 267,000 MW have been deployed globally. By 2030 it could be 800,000–1,200,000 MW.

@Urban_Connector I hate bike lanes, much better to cycle on the road. They stop/start randomly, are generally poorly kept and have people doing 5mph in them. If you can’t cycle on the road you probably shouldn’t be cycling at all.

@Mercfan3Mercfan @aaronsmith Send me a link to a website written by a four year old with a crayon and I’M the one talking nonsense? Look into exhaust treatments for cars and power stations, learn some chemistry and then try again.

A predictable anti-EV talking points is: “Sure, but wait until you need a new battery.” You don’t - they tend to outlast the car. But if you did, an avg 64 kWh battery in 2030, after 8 yrs warranty, would cost $5,449. That’s 1 yr of diesel for a Ford Ranger at current rates.

I’ve noticed the current gaggle of naysayers who forget fossil fuels and focus on the concrete used for a wind turbine base…. Absolute planks

@Mercfan3Mercfan @aaronsmith I just said it results in CO2+water. True? Both are kinda essential for life on earth (again, uncontroversial), even if there is some question on levels. Please tell me what I’ve said that is not factual?

@ClinchJim @aaronsmith You need to do some serious reading if you think that burning fossil fuels is benign.

This is wrong. People trust scientists instead of politicians because they are straight with them. The U.K. will suffer growing impacts from climate change until the world reaches net zero. We will not persuade the world to reach net zero if like @Conservatives we give up on it.
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

This is what people hate about Net Zero fanatics. They would rather hit made-up targets, even if it makes actual climate change worse. Using dirtier imports rather than using our own is bad for our economy and it’s bad for the environment. We need to get back to common sense.

Don't believe the spin. Sewage spills are down to water companies, whatever the weather. And dry spills can be worse: more concentrated, more damaging. So the root problem of privatisation remains. The public is paying to clean up our water. We should own it.

@carla_denyer The price you pay is not set by gas. It’s set by green levies and the strike price agreed with renewable providers. You could cut gas cost to zero and our bills wouldn’t go down. Reality not ideology.

As we stare down these energy price shocks, we need to ask: why is the price of *all* electricity largely set by gas-fired power stations? This rigged system needs to change. Today, I wrote to Ed Miliband MP asking that we break the link between gas and electricity prices.

Britain's new innovation agency, ARIA, funded with £800 million of taxpayer money, is now planning to dim the sun to fight 'climate change'. Projects include spraying salt water into the sky and even building a giant sunshade in space. ARIA is exempt from freedom of information laws, answers to no one, and just burned 56 million on sun-dimming experiments that could disrupt global weather and agriculture. While Britain's real economy buckles under high taxes and energy costs, its leaders are funding crackpot schemes to block out the sun. The UK, where ideology, not science, drives policy.

Regular cycling deprogrammes motonormativity and shows a better way of living is attainable. It’s why the capitalists spend a lot of money disseminating anti-cycling narratives, via their pet politicians and complicit media, to keep mindless car brains subjugated and…

I actually disagree. I’m a fan of net zero of course and it’s good to hear the Climate Change Committee (of deep subject matter experts) say we are more or less on target…though I think there are questionable assumptions around the bigger later years cuts forecast , reliance on dodgy tech like carbon capture and storage.. but that aside. Where I disagree is with the idea we need to re make the case for net zero. I think we should shut up about it. It’s been toxified, like the EU before it - just say its name and you’re in an uphill battle. Better to talk about energy bills, cost of living, jobs and economic growth - the green economy. Let’s talk about the benefits of getting there, rather than the destination. Next zero is too abstract for too many people who struggle day to day - let’s talk about the benefits of the green economy, which is how we get to net zero. independent.co.uk/climate-change…

Another misery caused by Brexit voters Geneva airport: EU citizens queue for passport control empty. Brits queue for over an hour Brexit voters should have to pay a £5,000 tax surcharge for the misery they have inflicted on the rest of us: Higher prices, job & trade losses

@Tw_timerAlder Tbh I’m with you. Oil is just too valuable a resource to burn away. I know it’s a wee bit more nuanced than that but I kinda agree. Surely it’s horses for courses though and our current trajectory is not working. Costs up, emissions up and stability down. No?

@Tw_timerAlder I understand why you adopt the tone you do but, honestly, It’s not a competition. Electricity provides a small and expensive part of our energy mix. It is increasing, yes of course (mainly deindustrialisation?). Oil is not just about fuel. Be reasonable?

This is what the majority of days will look like in the not too distant future. Or the annual average of power generation. EVs and heat pumps will also reduce fossil fuel use. Fossil fuel fans have lost the battle. Their lies have not worked. Give it up now 👍🏻
