@Tw_timerAlder The problem is not generating the energy. Its storing it for when the sun don’t shine and the wind don’t blow. We can't do it.

The truth backed up with actual data on UK heat pumps. They work well and are almost all cheaper to run than gas heating.
Greg Jackson@g__j

Not a study, not a survey - but the actual live data from every @OctopusEnergy Cosy heat pump installed in real homes is now online. And it shows that over 80% of Cosy heat pumps were cheaper to run than a gas boiler over the last year and delivered a COP of 3.7 over the whole year (about 4.3x more efficient than a gas boiler) There’s so much disinformation from fossil fuel lobbyists on heat pumps - and anecdote based on bad installs or out of date tech - but we hear time and time again how much Octopus customer la love their heat pumps. Cosy heat pumps can run as hot as a boiler (70C+), can often be installed with no radiator changes and no new insulation, work with microbore piping, can often retain your old hot water tank if you have one. But so much more - comfort sensors in up to ten rooms, optional remote support and servicing, software updates to literally make your heating better without a visit. Effortlessly working with smart tariffs to save money. British designed, British manufactured and thousands of great British jobs. Helping insulate Brits from the last gas crisis, this gas crisis and more to come. See the data for yourself: octopus.energy/cosy-heat-pump…

@Tw_timerAlder “Cope” what are you 12? For sure you can fit a heat pump almost anywhere. That doesn’t mean it would be as effective or cheaper than gas though does it?

People who ‘follow the data’ would probably use a sample period that’s a little longer than 12 hours How about, say, the last 12 months? In which time renewables have generated 42% of the UK’s electricity Gas, meanwhile, is at 28%

'We can rely on wind power' say the Green Grifters and Politicos 'Oh no we can't!' says Latimer 12 hours ago wind was making nearly 15% of Britain's electricity. Now its just 4%. Its gone on strike. And there's nothing we can do about it.

@latimeralder @colinwalker79 But a lot cheaper than peaker gas plants. Also BESS site can be installed in about six months, i hear new gas plants take 5 to 10 years.

@Tw_timerAlder Misleading and not exactly useful data as all homes that have been fitted with heat pumps would have been screened for suitability. It would be amazing if anyone decided to install an expensive heat pump just to pay more for heating.

NEW | Solar power is fast becoming South Asia’s shield against fossil fuel shocks amid rising tensions in the Middle East. But deeper resilience will depend on electrification, scaling renewables, and stronger regional grids. ember-energy.org/latest-insight…

Spain’s average electricity price is forecast at €66/ MWh, half Italy's. Why? ➡️Speedy rollout of renewables (now at 57%+ of electricity) put a lid on bills ➡️Nuclear at 20% of electricity helps ➡️Gas sets the price of electricity just 15% of the time (89% in Italy) While the rest of Europe grapples with extreme gas volatility from fossil fuel wars, Spain is proving that renewables are a massive competitive advantage ft.com/content/19f2ee…

NEW | The world installed a record 814 GW of solar and wind capacity in 2025 ☀️⚡️ That's over 1,000 TWh of electricity generation per year... ...enough to displace nearly twice Qatar's annual LNG export volume in gas generation 🔥❌ Fossil fuels crisis? Wind and solar deliver.

@Tw_timerAlder They are so bad (and noisy by the way) and reliant on electricity that even the bloke that came out to quote for the old lady next door said, "Don't do it love. It'll only get the place to about 17C and you'll be freezing"
