The brass neck of the Chancellor to claim Conservatives didn’t care about schools like hers. Before Cons came in in 2010 her school was only ‘satisfactory’. Now under the brilliant Harris Trust it’s repeatedly ‘outstanding’. That’s what our reforms have done for young people.

Nathan Newby has received the George Medal for his intervention with Mohammed Farooq, who had a pressure cooker device with 10kg of explosives, at St James's University Hospital, Leeds, in January 2023. Mr Newby saw him and engaged with him for two hours, successfully persuading him to abandon his plans. #NotAllHeroesWearCapes gov.uk/government/new…

Our hearts are shattered. Emerging from the holy fast of Yom Kippur, British Jews are now grasping the full extent of today’s terror attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester. This is the day we hoped we would never see, but which deep down, we knew would come. For so long we have witnessed an unrelenting wave of Jew hatred on our streets, on campuses, on social media and elsewhere – this is the tragic result. This not only an assault on the Jewish community, but an attack on the very foundations of humanity and the values of compassion, dignity and respect which we all share. I have spoken this evening to Rabbi Daniel Walker, the spiritual leader of the Heaton Park Synagogue. His courageous leadership, together with the resilience of his congregation, are an inspiration to us all. May the victims’ memories be for a blessing and may the injured be granted a swift recovery. I pray that this tragedy strengthens our collective resolve to confront antisemitism, in all its guises, once and for all.

Two thirds of people under the age of 40 don’t even know what the Battle of Britain is. It’s the result of allowing our history, heroes, flags, and culture to be sneered at and neglected. Enough. We are a great country and should always be proud of our history.

She made us all even more proud to be British 🇬🇧. HRH The Duchess of Kent, born and raised in Hovingham, will be remembered for a life of quiet, dignified service, compassion and love of music. 8️⃣0️⃣ years since victory in the Pacific, we remember the bravery that brought World War II to an end in 1945. 🇬🇧 We honour those who fought. We must never forget their service and the service of all those who have come since. #VJDay #VJDay80 #VJ80

As a Dual British-Israeli citizen who survived 471 days in Hamas captivity, I am deeply saddened by your decision @Keir_Starmer to recognise Palestinian statehood. This move does not advance peace—it risks rewarding terror. It sends a dangerous message: that violence earns legitimacy. By legitimising a state entity while Hamas still controls Gaza and continues its campaign of terror, you are not promoting a solution; you are prolonging the conflict. Recognition under these conditions emboldens extremists and undermines any hope for genuine peace. Shame on you.

35 years ago today one of the finest people I ever had the privilege to know, Ian Gow, was blown up by IRA cowards. Loyal, generous, witty, patriotic, principled and integrity all describe Ian. His devotion to the Union was unfailing. Unionism had no greater friend than Ian Gow.
