Our town’s largest growing demographic has been seniors age 65+. But a town needs a flow for growth. People need to sell homes & others buy them / add to them. They upgrade the locations and change the community with each generation. For many munis, stagnation is death.
Nancy Mace@NancyMace

Our seniors should not pay property taxes.

A speaker you disagree with is an opportunity. That should be taught from K through Ph.D., because it is one of the basic habits of a free mind. Hear Jon out. I have zero doubt he will give a great talk.

In 1966, Robert Watts said if he were forced to carry a rifle, the first man he’d want “in his sights” was LBJ. The Supreme Court said that was political hyperbole, not a true threat. Now imagine if Watts had written it in seashells.

An NJ town council refused to pay its bill for ads in a local news outlet, not because of any problem with the ads, but because council members are mad about "false" reporting. Wildly unconstitutional and an apparent breach of contract. All on video: youtube.com/watch?v=IxJEfM…

Can a Town Council refuse to pay a bill just because they hate the headlines? 📰⚖️ In a 4-3 vote, the Toms River Council just blocked payment to a local news outlet, sparking a massive First Amendment debate. Mayor Rodrick warned: "It's a civil rights lawsuit waiting to happen."

@AbigailShrier When I was on the town council, I couldn’t count how many times I got requests like this. Resident: can we ban fire pits? My neighbor…. Me: I have the perfect idea for you. It involves speaking to your neighbor.

@lymanstoneky After a parent in my town got arrested for letting their 7 year old walk around the block alone, I made a law allowing parents to decide when it’s appropriate-over the objections of the police chief. This used to be the NORM. letgrow.org/teaneck-childh…

Our survey wasn't perfect . Reality probably differs somewhat from the exact numbers we show here. But even if we have over-estimated the "can't leave house share" by 200% The share of kids prohibited from playing in the yard SHOULD BE 0%!!!

My oldest is 6. Her age peers: -25% already have a smartphone -spend 7.2 HOURS/wk on internet devices -58% aren't even allowed to play IN THEIR OWN YARD without supervision -get less than 40 minutes/week outside without supervision -socialize with friends only 2.2 hrs/wk

American kids spend enormous amounts of time online with very few significant restrictions, according to a new @FamStudies research brief published today by Michael Toscano, @lymanstoneky and @grantjbailey 🧵 (1 of 3) Read the summary here: ifstudies.org/blog/new-ifs-b…

To be fair, I'm not sure this level of vitriol from a judge is productive or good. On the other hand, Kash Patel does seem like the sort of dude who would roll into court completely unprepared and piss a judge off.

Holy f*ck. Word for word. Ana Kasaparian (Extreme Left Wing) and Nick Fuentes (Extreme Right Wing) paint themselves as polar opposites on the political spectrum. However, listen to them here, side by side. This is horseshoe theory on fully display.

@beyondreasdoubt I’ve had the opportunity to get to know the priests at our local Catholic Church well (Father Joe is terrific) as well as several online here. They have been absolutely terrific in every way. It’s very clear that they chose the right calling.

An uncommon very personal post from me ... When I returned to the Catholic Church (I was raised Roman Catholic - I was baptized, received my First Holy Communion and was Confirmed) last year after many, many years away, I waited nearly two months before receiving Communion. I wanted to make sure I was back at the Church for the right reasons, and was ready to recommit, but also commit in a way that made sense for me. So anyhow, obviously, I had to go to Confession prior to receiving Communion. I went one day in the middle of the afternoon and I had just missed it. So I quietly approached one of the Fathers asking if it was too late to go to Confession. (I did not realize as I approached him, it was the Father whose masses had become my favorite to attend. Uber conservative.) Anyhow, I explained it's been many, many years and I have been attending mass every Sunday the last two months but would like to go to Confession. He asked exactly how long it had been. I told him. He looks at me and says "Ok, let's go. I have a lot of questions for you."
Gray Connolly@GrayConnolly

My annual Catholic Lenten poast: - limited opportunity for Confession is a problem - amount of time some Catholics (who I suspect are not serial killers and/or genocidal maniacs) spend confessing to the exclusion of others' opportunity is a problem - the Scottish solution✝️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@MorosKostas I think your claim rests on a moving target. Was Justice Sandra Day O’Connor appointed by a Republican and then voting liberal or was she the only Justice that came from a State position and understood the importance of State sovereignty even at the expense of conservative ends?

Another constant frustration with the judiciary is that often Republican-appointed judges end up being liberals on the bench. But it almost never goes the other way; I can't think of many examples of Democrat-appointed judges becoming reliably conservative on the bench.

If you think your job is to just call balls and strikes and the opposing umpires will only call strikes, then you are not a wise Supreme Court justice. You are a sucker and unworthy of the office to which you have been appointed.
