@pntrack While reading, I wanted to argue with you, but you're correct. As a huge advocate for every athlete to lift, if you want to get faster, your lifting needs to optimize for speed.

The argument of stronger = faster, has been a contentious subject for many years. Strength is good. Strength supplements speed. Strength gains can and will often improve speed. Sprinters lift. Sprinters typically have amazing-looking bodies. But stronger isn’t always faster. “The strongest are seldom the fastest. ~Boo Schexnayder Power lifters and bodybuilders are seldom the fastest guys on the track team. We learn by stories. ⤵️ When Covid shut everyone down, I had 8 fast sophomore track athletes who also played 🏈. These 8 guys found a gym and lifted like madmen. They had nothing else to do. They got super strong and posted flex-pics often. When things opened up a year later, one of the 8 was faster (slightly). 7 of 8 were slower by an average of one mph. They never got their speed back during their junior track season. None of the 7 ran track as seniors. They continued to play 🏈. Lifting in the absence of sprinting, jumping, bouncing, and throwing will often make athletes slower. Is that anti-strength? No. But, stronger ≠ faster. It’s more correct to say that athletes who get faster, get stronger. 🏋️‍♂️ Just because fast guys are strong doesn’t mean strong guys are fast. Sprint, lift, jump, bounce, throw… but make speed the priority.

The past 3 years in PA, the teams in our league wouldn't send the Tight copy of their film. WHY ARE WE MAKING EACH OTHERS LIVES HARDER FOR NO REASON!?
CoachtmanesALT@CoachtmanesALT

Maybe this has changed over the last couple of years in the coaching world. But the Coordinators that are at the top of their peers generally do not care if you break down their tape. In fact they welcome it. I’ve ran into almost every coordinator that we’ve talked about on @The_Ballmanac and every single one has been super cool. Feel like when you talk to OGs about it there was much more of a “hushed” vibe to talking ball a decade or two ago. Either the coaching world has changed, or people at the top are cool with seeing their ideas talked about or challenged. Potentially both.

“I Need to Get Better as a Strength and Conditioning Coach” A High School Coach asked me to take a look at his summer training program a while back. It looked solid at the time. Curious about his results, I asked him how it went. He was hard on himself: “What I struggled with was exercise selection and programming to fit our equipment. Overall I need to get better as a strength & conditioning coach.” I could tell he felt like he’d let his athletes down. The program hadn’t flowed as smoothly in his facility as he’d hoped. To me, his self-criticism showed how much he cares about giving his athletes the best possible training. But he wasn’t giving himself enough credit. What he’s experiencing is a valuable learning moment. Designing a program isn’t perfect on the first try. It may only unfold about 70-80% as well as you intended, which isn’t bad at all. Remember, it’ll never be perfect the first time and it doesn’t have to be perfect to be effective. Real-world experience is key to spotting bottlenecks and making those changes. Each time you run a program, you find little things that need fixing. Maybe an exercise doesn’t flow well, or a setup takes too long. With each adjustment, your program moves closer to fitting 90%, then 95%, of what you need. This process is a journey. Starting with a solid base, you’ll fine-tune it run after run, creating a program that’s specifically designed for your gym, your athletes, and your goals. So if you’re in the same spot, remember—it’s okay if your program isn’t perfect right away. Learning and improving each time you run it is what matters most. In time, you’ll have the optimal program fit perfectly to your athletes in your situation. But that’ll never happen without going through this learning process.

@coachkou Idk if I'm just not as smart as everyone else, but my brain literally can't focus on 2 teams at once. Plus there is a kind of rhythm to the season, when you can focus on a single team and then put them to bed at the end of each week.

As I watch Dick Lebeau more and more, the one thing I took away from him with game planning was that he would never watch 1 second of film on anyone except the team he was playing that week. Which in this day and age isn't always the case because teams want to get ahead on the film breakdowns for future opponents. especially at the lower levels, don't cloud your mind!

When I had my second son, I was in the middle of lateraling b/t Biglaw firms. Firm 2 asked me to take paternity leave with Firm 1 and then quit at the end. I told them, “No. If you want to hire me, you’ll do it before paternity leave and let me have the time off.” They agreed. Firm 2 was Kirkland & Ellis, the most notoriously hard-working Biglaw firm in the country. If I could get two months off paid at K&E before even making a contribution, you can get it anywhere. You’re not getting what you want because you’re not setting your priorities, knowing your value, and demanding it.
VikingzFanPage@vikingzfanpage

#Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah took roughly two weeks of paternity leave in 2023 following the birth of his first son, and many around the league were in “disbelief” that he did this, per @DMRussini and @alec_lewis. During that time, he worked remotely and was absent from several training camp meetings and practices. Minnesota was publicly supportive of his time away: “Following the birth of his first child, the general manager left for paternity leave, missing about two weeks of training camp meetings and practices and working remotely during that stretch. Word of his time away from the team traveled quickly around the league. Among some rival executives and coaches, it was met with disbelief. In an NFL culture where many players, coaches, and executives proudly acknowledge missing the births of their children, taking time away to care for a newborn and support a partner remains uncommon.”

10 years ago, I made a conscious choice to reverse my path. Lost and broken, I needed a change. I began relearning how to focus on others rather than myself. To those clamoring for #NFL conference championship games to be played indoors at neutral sites, I can only offer the narration of the great John Facenda. If we lose the elements, we lose some of the great storylines and history.

Nick Saban - Philosophy Evolution - "I changed my philosophy when Lane (Kiffin) came here. We said we got to outscore them." - "We don't control the ball on offense, we score." - "I grew up with the idea that you play good defense, you run the ball, you control vertical field position on special teams and you're going to win. Whoever rushes the ball for the most yards is going to win the game. You're not going to win anything now doing that."

Not sure this is "inspirational". More so an indictment of how our profession can be. Taking advantage of young guys trying to get in somewhere... See so many D1 places posting to invite full time equivalent workloads as volunteers, no housing, no meals. Glad it worked here tho..

𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚: Dolphins’ HC Jeff Hafley says he used to sleep under his desk at Pitt every day for two years while he was coaching for them. Absolutely inspirational. “When I left to go to Pitt, I was dropped off and I slept under my desk for two years… what would I say to that guy now? I would say that it worked.”

@TheeBrotherBill I think one thing people who have no participated in this sport personally fail to realize, is that a locker room that cares THAT much is not normal. That is a direct result of the culture built.

I don’t disagree with what Terry said about looking around the locker room seeing all the guys and how broken and dejected they were and wanting to move on. I felt the same way, seeing them breaking down made me think this regime has run its course. Nothing he’s said has made it clear why Beane survived the firings
