"Player background checks are like building a jigsaw." But you never get the full picture. Not until the player walks through the door at least. This week @Pitacodogringo came into the Recruitment Room for a live session with our members. 23 years commentating and scouting in Brazil. He's worked with a number of clubs in Europe. And he was the first to scout some of the best players in the world... His analogy that player background research and character references really resonated with me. I've spent hours and days trying to build the real picture on players across the world during my time at clubs. It's tough. Here's why background checks are so difficult: → The person you ask might have their own agenda → Past relationships influence what people tell you → Selling clubs rarely share negative information → Even honest answers only give you one piece You can review social posts. DM previous teammates. Interview former managers All helpful. But you're still building an incomplete picture. The best you can do? Gather enough pieces to build the picture the best you can.
