Merrimack horns Chest flows into read & react hoops After the ball screen & flare curl they get into a twisted stagger The hit the roll before swinging it around the horn Merrimack sees the defense expects it to keep swinging it around so they drive in from the top & finish

@franfraschilla After a warm-up we simulate the start of a game and play the first 2 minutes to practice starting fast.

Coaches: Have you thought about practicing the “first three minutes of the second half” in your scrimmaging? After water break/free throws, simulate start of 2nd Half. How? Our “first three minute of 2nd half” rules were a. Warm up with intensity. b. Screen hard & box out hard. c. Get all 50-50 balls. d. Try to go inside early to get fouled. Nothing worse than killing yourself to get an eight point lead vs. a good team in the first half & mentally let down to start 2nd Half. Practice this physically & mentally to keep the aggressive mindset

PREDETERMINING YOUR FINISHES Predetermining your finishes can slow down your drive, and be a hinderance in finding the optimal finishing solution. Simplify players mindset by turning every drive in to a ‘DUNK’. That basically means get all the way to the rim or backboard. If they can get there, then it turns in to a finishing move, a kick out, or a 2 foot stop.

Live Regressions I love using regressions because playing in 3 man game, 2 man game, and isos are all completely different. We use this 2v2 to 1v1 regression to have live reps without them being scripted.

I just don’t understand how each state hasn’t adopted a shot clock already. The shot clock is the ultimate player development tool at the grassroots/high school. The 24-second FIBA clock that is used at the lowest levels of basketball around the world is the reason players like Jokić and Dončić are such incredible decision-makers. They played with a shot clock since they were in basketball diapers.
Travis Wilson@TravisBOUND

BREAKING: Both proposals for a shot clock in basketball were voted down by the WIAA Advisory Council this morning, meaning they will not be considered at tomorrow's Board of Control meeting. #wisbb #wisgb

In 2015, we sold out to the Tony Franklin Air Raid System. It included a wrist coach setup that helped us simplify and go fast. We won a state championship with it in 2016. Then we made it even better... 🧵 THREAD

@CoachTatum90 Depends on when it is in the season and how much you have used/trust your special teams units. Fake punt is not an option here. If you want to go for it keep you offense on field. I like the pooch punt out of FG alignment as an option in that situation if practiced.

Head Coaches, I’ve got a situation for you! 4th & 3 on the +40 You’re up 4 pts with 2:15 left in the 4th, opponent only has 1 TO left. Go for it, fake punt, or punt?? OFF/DEF have been average throughout the game.

ONE OF THE BEST LESSONS YOU CAN TEACH YOUNG PLAYERS Not everyone gets the same amount out of an hour practice session. The players that give effort, are engaged, and bring good energy will get more out of a practice/training/game than everyone else. Stack those days, and you will separate from others in the same amount of time!!

YOUTH ZONE Having coached youth for a while now, playing Zone is the ultimate cheat code. Players can’t pass far enough or shoot from distance enough to effectively beat a zone. To me, it’s a waste of time playing against a zone in youth basketball. Although I do understand some coaches doing it bc it is easier to put in. I actually like pressing man to man for portions of the game bc it makes players develop how to handle the ball and pass against pressure, as well make faster decisions

Being able to play off of 2 feet is vital! That doesn’t necessarily mean a Jump Stop. A jump stop can carry your momentum forward. In this situation, an Outside-Inside finish gives you 2 break points and allows you to go at the rim, rather than falling towards the baseline.

Running a 2-3 zone in youth basketball stunts defensive and offensive growth, kills the fun, builds bad habits, and doesn’t teach kids how to actually play the game.

KEEP OFF SEASON DEVELOPMENT SIMPLE Heading in to the off season soon, we’ll see a lot of players try to get better at everything and make their development more complex than it had to be. So much of development can be solved by focusing on shooting and playing. Within the playing focusing on ball handling (getting 2 feet in the paint), finishing, decisions and reads, guarding on ball and off ball. If you play with purpose and get your shooting reps up before or after you’ll put yourself in a great spot during the off season.

RESPONDING TO MISTAKES "I'm letting the team down because I turned the ball over ... missed a shot ... blew a defensive assignment. No, you're letting the team down when it parlays into 4 or 5 possessions after that. Pick yourself up... You're playing a game that's imperfect."
