While I don't consider myself to be "rich", I know that I do pretty well compared to most people.
I'm paid on salary, and I work my ass off, often putting in 70-80 hour work weeks; I'd make more working hourly at McDonald's a lot of times.
I also pay more in taxes than a lot of people make in a year.
I paid for my kids' college, I save for my own retirement. I'm not banking on Social Security.
I don't necessarily mind paying taxes - provided they legitimately go to the intended purpose. I'd even be OK paying a little more for true "needs".
That said: it really pisses me off when politicians take my tax money and utterly squander it, with no oversight and no accountability, and then come back and ask for more.
To them, it's "free money" - "The Rich™" can afford it, after all.
* Massive projects that never get built
* School infrastructure funding that never seems to fix the buildings
* Foreign "aid" that funnels back to political campaigns
* Daycare programs with no children
* Insurance subsidies that go to insurance companies, while rates increase
* Student loans that enrich Universities who raise rates, while having $Billions in endowments
* Homeless programs that only increase homelessness
* Housing projects that build no homes
* Research grants that encourage a predetermined result
I could go on.
We're never allowed to know where our money goes, and if we question it, we're called selfish/racist/*phobic.
Criminals walk free, and law-abiding people ultimately get punished with stricter laws "for our safety".
On the rare occasion somebody finds a major issue, politicians hold Kabuki Theater show hearings, and nothing changes.
We continue electing politicians who promise results, only to ignore us once they're in office.
Something needs to change.
I'm not sure it ever will.
