I just built an automated sports team newsletter system that is completely housed on Google. 🤯 The workflow: 1️⃣ Coach fills out a short Google Form on their phone. 2️⃣ Script grabs the data, pulls the season schedule, and calculates player stats. 3️⃣ Automatically formats a beautiful HTML email and blasts it to parents, media, players, community, etc. Turning 45 minutes of Sunday busy work into a 2-minute post-game task. It will be customizable to what you want to communicate or emphasize to the recipients. Wrapping up the final template soon. Who wants it when it's done? 🙋‍♂️

"Leach Time" 🏴‍☠️ Before games, Coach Leach had our teams go to the movie theater and watch the newest releases. Why? Sure, he was a huge movie buff, religiously staying all the way through the credits and holding up our buses from leaving. He also loved his movie snacks and was very particular about his popcorn. Early on we used to stay at the Red Lion in Lewiston, Idaho the night before games and go to the theater there. Then we switched it up and started staying in Pullman the night before home games my junior year. But Leach loved the Lewiston theater popcorn so much that he had them prepare a bag and had a younger staff member drive over to pick it up. Haha. But the real reason was to get our minds off the game, relax, and be at ease. He wanted us to enjoy ourselves, have fun, and be loose. Not wound up and uptight about the game. Then we’d come back to the team hotel for our nightly meetings and he’d say: “Alright, it’s football time.” That was our trigger to lock in and focus. The horsing around was over. This back and forth was a constant for our team, ebbing and flowing between “relax time” and “football time.” I believe it was a big reason for our success, helping us recharge and come back more focused and fresh during football time. In fact, I think this same ebb and flow was a big reason for Leach’s long term success as well. While most coaches were grinding in the office 365 days a year, burning themselves out with paranoia, Leach spent his off-seasons in Key West enjoying life outside of football. But when he got back to Pullman, Lubbock, or Starkville, he was back in the saddle during “football time.” I think we could all use a little more “Leach time” in our lives. Stepping away from the grind and truly allowing our minds to relax, be present, and enjoy life outside our work, business, or whatever it is we do so we can recharge for our “football time.” #MindStrength #LeachTime

@TheGraphicGod_ All the stripes are good, but black pants are just awful. Especially with the red jersey. Looks like an arena league uniform.

Coaches as U.S Presidents For fun, here's a President's Day comparison of coaches who have similarities to the U.S. Presidents... George Washington - Bill Walsh. Both built the system, were calm, set the standard, and left when they didn't have to. Thomas Jefferson - Mike Leach Innovative thinkers, big idea guys. They thought differently than everyone else. Brilliant but quirky. Andrew Jackson - Bill Parcells Both tough, blunt, and not here to be liked. Polarizing but undeniably effective. Abraham Lincoln - Nick Saban Both considered the best, both probably misunderstood, and both had to change "coordinators" a lot Ulysses S Grant - Mike McCarthy Both won big but then kind of messy at their jobs after the big win. Franklin Roosevelt - Bill Belichick Both took over in crisis and built a dynasty, not real flashy. Harry Truman - Steve Spurrier Straight shooters who had that "buck stops here" energy. John Kennedy - Sean McVay Both young, charismatic, and inspirational. High energy, big presence, and the ladies like them. Lyndon Johnson - Urban Meyer Both masters of relationships and pressure tactics, and got the job done... but messy behind the scenes. Richard Nixon - Jim Harbaugh Very intelligent strategists, both had a "us v. them" mentality, but always with the drama... Ronald Reagan - Jimmy Johnson Great communicators who built winning cultures quickly. Both knew how to manage the spotlight. Bill Clinton - Lane Kiffin Both extremely talented and smart, both charismatic but always getting "distracted". But both always a way back and are successful. I left out the 2000s-present presidents because I don’t feel like fighting either side today 😂 But I know y’all have thoughts… 👉 Drop your comps below. Who did I miss?

Show of hands: how many high school coaches REQUIRE their players to participate in a 7-on-7 league or similar offseason association?
J Alexander@JAlexanderPrin1

@educator4ever36 I'm going to open another can of worms regarding inequity in high school sports. In high performing teams in volleyball, softball, baseball, and basketball, you better play on a travel team to have a chance of making the high school team. Lots of football teams require 7v7.
