Beyond proud of my son, @domdifrancisco, for earning @EstacadaHS top athletic honor, the Louie Lenhart Award for Male Athlete of the Year, and receiving the Weston Football Scholarship! This is a young man who never makes excuses and thrives on overcoming adversity with a +1% better everyday mindset. Didn’t get much playing time early on? He just put his head down and worked harder. Mid season concussion? Ended up 1st team all state/League Defensive POY. Appendectomy late in the track season? 3.5 weeks later, he clocks a 10.96 PR in the 100m and takes 4th at state. What most didn’t see were the 4:30am workouts before school and the late nights grinding alone in the garage gym, building speed, strength, and belief. All while maintaining a 3.78 GPA and being the definition of a consummate teammate. HUGE thank you to the coaches, teammates, staff, and community who’ve supported him throughout these 4 amazing years. He's now putting in the work as he prepares for the East-West Shrine Game and his next chapter this fall with @_CR_Football with the goal of earning a football scholarship. @CoachTManes Even in college, teaching is still teaching. Kids are still kids. If going from doubles to trips radically alters your defense, that’s a huge problem. Trying to have checks for everything is nonsense. That’s how offenses trap you.

@CoachTatum90 If your defense requires whole sale changes because of a motion then your defense has problems. If the call/front/blitz/coverage have to change, it wasn’t a good call to begin with. Either kids haven’t been taught the how and why enough or your call is way too rigid. Or both.

Defensive Coaches! Is handling motion as big a deal as us Offensive Coaches make it out to seem?

All good defense is just creative problem solving. The coaches who've been good at solving problems in ways the players can execute will always be good at it.

I have a real gripe with the idea of “simplification” being a catch all solution in coaching. I think simplification is oftentimes a justification for poor pedagogy. I also have a major issue with the idea of high volume meaning complicated and low volume meaning simple. 1/
