From #Westernu to the world stage. Mark Ideson (BSc’99) is representing Canada once again in wheelchair curling at the 2026 Winter Paralympics in Milano-Cortina. A #WesternMustangs alum and former Mustangs Cheerleading national champion, Ideson’s journey to his fourth Paralympic Games is one of perseverance, resilience, and determination. After surviving a devastating helicopter crash in 2007, he found his way back to sport - ultimately becoming the skip of Canada’s national wheelchair curling team and a three-time Paralympic medalist. I've been following CIAU/CIS/U Sports basketball since I was in Grade 5 (walked to school in snowstorms, uphill both ways). Truly mean this: the level of hoops in this country has elevated *so much* from what it once was. What a show these kids are putting on at the Final 8.

On February 6 at Alumni Hall, approximately 50 Grade 7 and 8 students from Eagle Heights (EH) Public School attended the #WesternMustangs women's volleyball match against York, which they won 3–0. "School Days events are so important to me as a student-athlete because they give us the chance to bring new fans to the sport and introduce a new generation to something we love. It's about growing the game while creating a memorable experience for the community." - Alexander Haylock - MASC Vice-President (School Days) & Student Athlete with @westernuFB The EH students participated in merch giveaways, interactive cheers, and lunch - and after the match, the #Mustangs women's volleyball team took time to high-five and connect with the students in the hallway. This event also brought in approximately 75 non-perishable food items which were donated to the Western Food Bank through #MustangsCARE. The #Mustangs thank Eagle Heights PS for coming, as well as MASC and Mustangs Care for helping to coordinate and make it a great day for the community and the team.
