John Swinney is ramping up the rhetoric about independence. But the rhetoric is empty. There is no substance behind it. It is dishonest. Swinney is working hard at duping people into believing that a vote for the SNP is a vote for independence. It isn't. While you listen to Swinney bang on about independence, ask yourself this question: why does he never mention Section 30? He says independence is "the prize that is before us on May 7 with an SNP majority". That is a lie. And SNP majority on May 7 gets us only the dubious 'prize' of Scotland's First Minister grovelling at the feet of the British Prime Minister, pleading for permission to hold a sham independence referendum. The only good news is that his abysmal supplication will almost certainly be refused. There is no 'secret plan' to which Swinney will resort when he is humiliated by Starmer. All he will do is tell us we must wait until the next UK election, when he will ask for another mandate. He will talk about using that election as a de facto referendum on independence. It won't be that. Yet again it will be the carrot of independence dangled before the donkeys who fall for the ruse every time. Most people don't realise the damage that Swinney will do if he submits a Section 30 request.
