@CorkReferee @RefsJourney @TheIFAB I'm afraid you can't read or didn't bother to read the rule you posted. Based on that, giving Martinez a red card is objectively incorrect and the law was applied improperly. No wonder refs are so shit nowadays if people like you make up their numbers. lol

@RefsJourney @TheIFAB 100% agree. I’ve already quoted the law to another poster. I will quote it here again for anybody reading our discussion. The amount of people who are ignorant of the law/uneducated on it are the problem.

@jayemm_ely @theadelites @WeatherBostonUK What? 😂 Literally every United fan will agree that we were shit and didn't deserve to win, but that doesn't mean that the refs being braindead is okay either. Both things are true.

@theadelites @WeatherBostonUK Exactly this but the game aside I’ve never come across a set of fans like it. Hardly any are admitting the fact that #MUFC were utter garbage last night and prefer to put the blame elsewhere. It like they believe they are entitled to win game by just turning up.

The entitlement of the ‘big clubs’ and the attention they garner never ceases to amaze me. When Manchester United found themselves floundering in the first half last night against #LUFC, shell-shocked by Noah Okafor’s double; they resorted to throwing themselves to the floor and begging the referee for handouts. Cunha got a yellow for diving. Fernandes’ got a yellow for non-stop begging and dissent.. Martinez got a red card for pulling Calvert-Lewin’s hair. ManchesterUnited have every off-field benefit stacked in their favour against Leeds. Revenue that is multiples of the Whites, ground capacity, training facilities, wage bill - it all dwarfs Leeds. But they have to resort to cheating when things don’t go their way. Under 10s know that diving is cheating, that you have to respect the referee and they also know that pulling someone’s hair is a red card. So for their club-captain and manager to come out after the game and bemoan the referee - and for that to dominate the media narrative - rather than the brilliance of Leeds United and their tactics is a stunning display of entitlement and faux-injustice. A tug on the hair is a red card. Now can we talk about Leeds United’s history-making performance?

@LufcJack1998 @Andyunited2352 @DougieCritchley I'm not crying for help from the officials at all. I just want the refs to do their jobs properly, and they fucking suck at it. lmao Call fouls that are fouls and don't actively try to ruin games with incorrect calls. That's all. That's not asking them to give us anything.

I’m pleased for Leeds I always want to see the best team win the title, I want to see sides that deserve it stay up… Leeds have impressed me throughout this season, they gave Sunderland two of our hardest games. Results haven’t matched performances recently. 6 points clear!

@MUFCRaw @UtdForever7 @ManUtd @premierleague Brother, United has objectively been fucked by VAR the most of any team this season and no one gives a fuck except us fans (and many fans even dismiss it, too!). When we get anything in our favor, everyone just says "like in Fergie's days". Fuck the rival fans.

Manchester United Forever
• Clear penalty on Matheus Cunha by William Saliba — NO foul! • Saliba grabbing Altay Bayındır’s hand — NO foul + score. • Clear foul on Bryan Mbeumo denying a goal-scoring chance — NO red card. • Semenyo grabbing Dalot by the throat — NO red card. • Multiple handballs by Bournemouth in the box — NO penalty. • Lisandro Martínez goal wrongly disallowed for a “foul” that never existed — robbed us of 3 points. • Amad Diallo pulled and pushed in the box — NO penalty… same situation with Harry Maguire on the other end — penalty given. • Leny Yoro elbowed in the face — play on! • And then Lisandro Martínez gets sent off for actually trying to win the ball while Calvert-Lewin hands are all over his face. Same league, same rules… completely different decisions when it comes to Manchester United. This are just a few decisions that VAR got completely wrong against us this season and i have probably missed some, but you get the point — it’s Manchester United against everyone always. Make it make sense… 🤦‍♂️

@IanDarke Very daft opinion. Leeds 100% deserved to win the game as United were horrendous for 70 minutes, but they didn't also need help from the ref for the first goal (should've been disallowed for a clear and obvious foul) and the softest, most insane red card decision you'll ever see.

@LufcJack1998 @Andyunited2352 @DougieCritchley So he moans at refs because they get things wrong, therefore he's a diver and the refs should just never blow the whistle when he goes down or gets fouled? Surely that implicit bias wouldn't affect how games are reffed. Surely not. That's a fair outlook, you fucking inbred.

@LufcJack1998 @Andyunited2352 @DougieCritchley He wasn't fouled yet your players thought he was so they stopped playing. lmao Makes sense, moron. And even if he was/is known as a diver, a ref can't treat those calls differently. That's why he he's allowed to card for simulation, as be did twice that game. You make no sense.

🚨💣 BREAKING: Gary Neville's The Overlap has bought Manchester United influencer Mark Goldbridge's YouTube channels. In an eyebrow-raising move, the former United defender's media firm will team up with the content creator, who is famous for his explosive rants. The Overlap has paid an undisclosed seven-figure sum for The United Stand and That's Football, as they seek to build 'one of the most exciting football communities in the world'. The deal will see Goldbridge continue to front both channels, which have a combined 3.7m subscribers, while what is being described as 'a significant expansion' will follow. The United Stand will be extended to include 'Stick to United', which will feature former players and journalists and 'The Daily United', a daily United news strand. Other major clubs across Europe will also be targeted. [@MikeKeegan_DM]

@AlfieHi14845583 @theeskimo006 @AmosMurphy_ The word "pull" inherently implies some amount of force. lol It's retarded wording. It should clearly state "excessive force" like it does for other red card challenges, but good luck getting PGMOL to create properly-worded and easily enforceable rules that guarantee consistency.

@MoonMan04756657 @castro_fatty @WestHam_Central Of course it's an assumption. The ref/VAR made their own, too. Mine is backed up by the fact that they were already grappling at the moment and both players had their eyes on the ball. Martinez clearly wasn't trying to yank his hair. The refs made a braindead call.

@CoconutJewce @castro_fatty @WestHam_Central "He was trying to" "accidentally grabbed" That's an assumption, refree doesn't have to assume the actions of a player, the footage shown is a clear pull on his hair and that is ehat the ref used to send him off

@israel_ajoje There was no force in Martinez's pull. It is objectively the wrong call, even by the letter of the law. It wasn't deliberate and it didn't have the necessary force to warrant a red card. Not to mention Martinez was also being fouled during that incident.

Referees make two kinds of mistakes. The kind that gets talked about and the kind that gets buried. Today there was one of each. Lisandro Martinez was sent off for pulling Calvert-Lewin's hair. IFAB Law 12 explicitly states that a player must be sent off for making a clear action to pull the hair of an opponent with force. The referee saw force and the law gave him no alternative. That decision has a legal basis whether you agree with the assessment or not. Then there is the first goal Leeds scored today. Okafor fouled Leny Yoro before his header that led to the opener. That foul was not called and the goal stood. Bruno Fernandes stood in front of Sky Sports cameras afterwards and said he could not talk about the referee or he would get into big trouble. He did not need to say anything else. The smile said the rest. Both things can be true simultaneously. The red card was legally defensible. The uncalled foul was not. United have a genuine grievance on one count and a harder argument on the other. Knowing which is which matters. The reason Bruno Fernandes unfortunately could not speak freely is FA Rule E3. It prohibits any player, manager or club official from making post-match comments that imply bias, question the integrity of a match official, or bring the game into disrepute. It is a serious offence under the FA Rukes. Marco Silva was fined £80,000 under FA Rule E3 for post-match comments implying bias against a referee following a Premier League match in December 2023. José Mourinho was fined £50,000 and handed a suspended stadium ban for suggesting a referee was afraid to give a penalty. The rule exists, in theory, to protect referees from reputational damage and to maintain the integrity of officiating. In practice it means that the people with the most direct experience of refereeing decisions, the players and managers on the pitch, are the ones legally prevented from discussing them publicly. Everyone else, pundits, journalists, fans, can say exactly what they think. The participant who lived it cannot. That tension is not incidental to football's relationship with accountability. It is central to it. Referees do not have perfect games. Neither do players. The difference is that players face consequences for their errors in real time. Referees do not and players can't complain. How fair exactly is that? My name is Ajoje. I am a FIFA Licensed Agent and International Sports Lawyer. I write on the Law and Business of Football, a lot. Repost and Follow if you want to read more posts like this.

🚨🚨🎙️| Jamie Carragher on Lisandro Martinez’s red card: “He's going for the ball and he's almost grappling. He's trying to grab onto something and he's caught the back of his hair - it could've been his hair or anything. He's got him for about half a second.  I don't think any football fan, manager or player is thinking 'that's a red card'. Everybody is looking at that and thinking 'oh come on, that is not a red card, behave yourself'.”

@AdamCrafton_ Well, the first goal was also a foul and the ref/VAR failed to get that decision correct, the second goal happened after a foul on Bruno that wasn't called. Then the red card obviously doesn't help. Obviously the ref isn't entirely to blame, but he was a large part of it.

Leeds move six clear of the bottom three after a 2-1 win at ten-man Manchester United. Noah Okafor with both goals inside half-an-hour. Fantastic win for Daniel Farke's side as Leeds take a huge step towards safety. Manchester United so poor during the first 45' and then saw Lisandro Martinez sent off 11 minutes after the break. Casemiro got one back as #MUFC rallied, but couldn't snatch a point. Casemiro and then Manuel Ugarte both had efforts cleared off the line and Karl Darlow saved Benjamin Sesko's header.🔴⚪️
