Most privacy coins weren't built to survive quantum computing.
Neptune is.
→ Post-quantum cryptography
→ Zero-knowledge privacy
→ Private smart contracts
→ No VC. Community-driven from day one.

I'd expect that to be the case.
Applied cryptography moves quickly and keeps opening up new possibilities.
Established projects have users and momentum, but upgrading to newer technology can be hard. Newer projects can start with better primitives, but then face the challenge of earning trust and adoption.
Hard to see one winner capturing the whole market.
English

@CodewordNeptune It’s also possible that there will be more than one project that succeeds, each specializing on one or the other

Privacy in crypto will win in two forms:
1. Private money — encrypted assets
2. Private computation — encrypted smart contracts
The second category is especially important for institutions because each one of them has its own idiosyncratic requirements—bespoke business logic, compliance rules, etc.
For them, providing privacy to their users isn’t as simple as just encrypting everything. They need to be able to encode who can see what and under which conditions.
That means privacy cannot just be binary. It must be programmable.
English

@TheW3storm Appreciate it! Happy to hear ideas, but just to be transparent: I'm not looking for paid partnerships or promo deals.
Open to good conversations though, very "verify me bro" aligned 🫡

@torproject @SecureDrop @guardianproject @BPFreeSpeech @OpenObservatory @open_archive @unredacted_org Great initiative!
I'd love to see the Tor Project consider adding a Neptune Cash receiving address too. It's a newer privacy coin with a strong cypherpunk ethos, in the spirit of projects like Monero.

Tomorrow, we’re launching something new: a way to make small contributions go further than they normally would.
This only works if people show up. May 19.

@pmarca Certainly.
However, looking at society as a whole, will we be better off, about the same, or worse in the short term, say, over the next decade?
English

@Cointelegraph Will they share your financial data with Google and Meta too?
futurism.com/artificial-int…
This is kind reminder to not share personal info with LLMs.
Also, use privacy coins.
English

@veorq Generally speaking, what's the likelihood such vulnerabilities would be identified in a cryptographic security review?

The so called dev tax or treasury tax is still in place and currently it totals to 20%.
"8% is distributed to the Zcash Community Grants Committee (ZCG) to fund independent teams in the Zcash ecosystem, and 12% is distributed to a “lockbox” — a pool of issued funds tracked by the protocol."

Here’s your periodic reminder that Zcash was originally going to be built on top of Bitcoin under the name Zerocoin but they needed money and thus sold out to create Zcash where they took 25% of miner rewards for themselves as a “dev tax”.
Cypherpunk ($CYPH)@cypherpunk
.@zooko: "Bitcoin is not a payment system that can empower individuals the way Zcashers and Hal Finney would have wanted."
English

@Vladcostea Exactly, VCs pumping the hype while they unload their stack on the buying public.
Two high profile Zcash stories on the same day, one on WSJ, the other one on Forbes. Very organic.
English

@RestoreBritain_ Kind reminder: even if governments push hard toward a cashless society, privacy-focused, anonymous, community-driven cryptocurrencies still offer an viable alternative to centralized and controlled payment channels.
English

Cash is freedom.
The push toward a cashless society is directly linked to Digital ID, programmable money and centralised financial control.
Once every transaction is digital and tied to your identity, governments and banks gain the power to monitor, restrict or freeze economic activity at the press of a button.
A Restore Britain government will protect your legal right to use cash.
English

@Cointelegraph It's no surprise that people are losing trust in national currencies, especially when their supply can expand so aggressively. Those who understand the issue are increasingly turning to crypto assets, particularly privacy-focused ones.
English

@WSJ For true crypto cypherpunks, there are more legitimate privacy coins than VC-backed Zcash, ranging from established community-led options like @Monero to newer, quantum resistant projects like @NeptuneCash.
English

With many crypto fans souring on bitcoin, some are getting behind Zcash, a privacy token that lets users shield transaction details and remain anonymous on.wsj.com/435cPir
