Instead of utilizing PDI's trackers (its VP/spox Paul Mitchell drew the Prop 50 maps to disenfranchise Republicans int he state)... we have a great new option in Optiq Data. Cole was the CAGOP's data guy from 2021-25 and built great new systems there, but is now on his own - which is still a huge win for all of us, because we need Republicans building great tech infrastructure (the Dems have outpaced us for far too long).

City of Los Angeles is starting to pickup a bit now, but we've still got a long ways to go. Current turnout is under 2% so far. For comparison, here was the final turnout in the city over previous statewide primaries: 2024 Primary: 28% turnout (605k voted) 2022 Primary: 31% (657k) 2020 Primary: 36% (773k) 2018 Primary: 27% (546k)

I have a math question for the California June primary: If 8,000,000 voters show up to vote and, Tom Steyer gets 15% or 1,200,000 votes and, He spends $170,000,000 on this race- how much did he spend per vote?

Finally getting to the point where we have enough returns to work with statewide. A few counties are still outstanding, including some with expected larger return numbers, but the precinct map is starting to fill in nicely.

Just hit over 500k ballots returned so far on the Civiq ballot tracker for the 2026 California Primary election. Returned: 521k (2.3% turnout) Dem: 41% Rep: 36% Oth: 22%

The joke was more that folks on this platform should chill with the hot takes when we only have like 4% of the total votes that will ultimately be cast (330k so far out of like 8 million or so that will ultimately be counted).
Also, in California most Republicans vote by mail. Here's the vote history for the 2024 General. 79% of Rep voters voted by mail, only 21% voted at the polls.

Finally reached over 1% ballots returned so far for the California Statewide Primary. We're expecting to see somewhere between 33% to 37% total turnout statewide when all is said and done, so we've got a long ways to go. ⬇️

In the past month the most common call I've received is elected officials asking why they aren't in the @Political_Data system.
And it's because of a really dumb law that passed last year, AB 1392 which makes all candidate and elected official voter information confidential unless they opt-in to having it be public.
I have literally had legislators who voted for that bill call and ask me why they can't find themselves in the PDI... and I'm like, "well, because you voted for the bill."
