@DHSCgovuk A good idea in theory. Many Trusts have recruitment freezes on at the moment. Where is the money coming from? Are Trusts going to be given adequate funding for this. More importantly, who is going to preceptor these newly qualified staff? Experienced staff are already flogged.

@DrRobgalloway When I was a student nurse in A&E in 1990, this was unheard of. Years of funding cuts, government mismanagement and vanity projects have led to reduced bed capacity in both hospitals and social care, dangerous staffing levels, poor morale etc. Corridor care is unacceptable.

So it looks like there will be a new government...... This picture was from the local paper a couple of months ago. But it's not a matter of poor leadership or staff not caring. I think we have amazing staff across our organisation doing everything they can. It's a problem which needs political solutions. Not just in healthcare but across society as the failures of society show up in the corridors of our a&es. The new government should Be judged on how they look after their citizens - including those who are cared for in our a&es

This is where I work as an A&E consultant. It's like this everywhere, everyday. Over the last 14 years, the unacceptable has become the accepted. My patients deserve better. #GE2024
