@RoyceKoop Over 60% in the last bi-elections. The MPs who have confidence in the government were duly elected to make their decisions.

This is an outrageous misrepresentation of how parliamentary committees are formed. Committees should be constructed to reflect the composition of the House of Commons as determined by Canadians. The voters spoke in the last election and gave the Liberals a minority. Canada is still a democracy. We have never seen a government transform a minority into a majority via enticing opposition members to cross the floor. MacKinnon's "long-standing principle" is one day old, invented post-hoc to justify the Liberals' power grab. I have never seen a government do more damage to our parliamentary institutions than this one. #cdnpoli #cdnpolitics
Scott Robertson@sarobertsonca

Government House Leader Steven MacKinnon announces motion to take control of committees: "In Parliament, there is a long-standing principle. A party that has the majority of seats in the House also has a majority in committees. This is at the core of our Westminster system of government."

I think Pierre is actually getting under his skin. Carney's ego is more fragile than I suspected. We'll see how this plays out.

@dkreative1 Parliament shouldn't be for sound bites. Questions should be serious, answers should be listened to, MPs should not sound like yelping seals. Your attack dog leader is leading in the wrong direction.

Mark Carney just doesn’t get how democracy works. He doesn’t get how parliament works. He doesn’t get how to be accountable. Only a “no questions, I’ll tell you what ever I damn well want to,” attitude. This man is dangerous Even more than Trudeau was.

@RomanFisher__ Until your party members learn to treat QP as something more than seals clapping behind their ilegitamate leader, it will never be an effective use of time.

Apparently the PM doesn’t go to QP because he has better things to do than fulfill his duties as a parliamentary and head of government. Why does he get to decide what questions are worthy of his time? If he thinks they’re foolish questions, that’s for Canadians to decide for themselves. It’s incumbent upon him to be present in the HoC chamber. The PM wants a frictionless environment where he holds unbridled power over the levers of an expanding state. Everything he’s done since becoming PM has been to consolidate power.
Scott Robertson@sarobertsonca

LPC MP Ben Carr on the PM not attending QP: "If the Leader of the Opposition took Question Period a little bit more seriously as opposed to just being a factory for clips... perhaps it might elicit something different."

@AndrewLawton In the 2 Ontario bi-elections last week the Liberals had more than 60% of the votes. Confidence in the government is growing. Voters kicked PP to the curb but your kwasi leadership review ignored them. Who is really not listening to the voters?

@LarryBrockMP Larry, now that you cannot dominate committees, we may see some bills pass through parliament. Due to insufficient funding for provincial jails, bail is still a problem in our riding. Ford has a 20 year plan to fix the over capacity. Maybe you should be talking to @WillBoumaBrant

It’s the same story every time: Liberals talking tough while delivering nothing. Violent crime is up 55%, and Canadians watch everyday as repeat offenders walk free with judicial discounts instead of real consequences. When it mattered, the Liberals voted against our common-sense proposals like Jail Not Bail, consecutive sentences, and One Law For All. How many more Canadians have to suffer because of a failed justice system before these Liberals admit their failure and stop giving criminals judicial discounts?

@Momoftwo45i @MarcNixon24 You honestly don't understand what socialists stand for and unlike PP's rhetoric, what Canadians want is a socialist democracy. When Pierre calls for the government to build more pipelines and oil reserves, that is Socialism. He just doesn't understand.

@AndrewScheer Bill C-14 Bail reform has been stalled by your committee antics for over a year. You claim that the government has done nothing on this file while you actively fight any movement forward. All you work to do for the past 10 years was to bring the government down.

Instead of focusing on making life more affordable for Canadians, Carney is using precious time in the House to make life easier for Liberals. They are giving themselves the power to shut down investigations into Liberal corruption; to block the release of documents; to hear from whistleblowers. We know what Liberals do when they think they won’t get caught (Green Slush Fund, ArriveScam, Indigenous procurement). Carney is proving to be just another Liberal. Stacking the deck to avoid accountability. Shame.
Steven MacKinnon@stevenmackinnon

Our government is committed to working hard on an ambitious agenda to build Canada strong.   Liberals now comprise a majority of MPs in the House of Commons.   Prime Minister Mark Carney and his government are determined to work constructively both in the House and in parliamentary committees.   There is an undeniable, long-standing principle in Parliament: a party that has the majority of seats in the House also has a majority in committees.   For that reason, I intend to give notice of a motion that reflects this principle to be considered in the House in the coming days.
