Boulder PD officer seriously injured after a violent encounter with a repeat offender. That same individual had just been released on a $100 bond. We stand with Lodge 78 and Chief Steve Redfearn in calling this out. Officer safety and public safety must be taken seriously.

A Gainesville (GA) PD officer was shot late Thursday night responding to a threat to life call. The dirtbag immediately opened fire when he saw the officer, but thankfully the officer’s radio mic and vest stopped the bullet. Officer was not injured. The coward suspect then fled and barricaded himself for hours before exchanging gunfire with the SWAT team…not a smart move on his part as he was quickly neutralized…permanently.

An Adams County deputy was shot multiple times this morning while responding to a weapons call. This is a stark reminder of the very real dangers law enforcement officers face every day in the course of doing their jobs. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured deputy, the victims involved, and every officer who puts on the badge and steps into harm’s way to keep our communities safe.

It is with deep sorrow that the Adams County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of Commander Karl Smalley. On the morning of Dec. 8, 2025, deputies responded to a report of a missing person in Watkins. Upon arrival, deputies found Commander Smalley near Box Elder Creek. He was not breathing and was later pronounced deceased.  Commander Smalley had just started his day and was on-duty at the time, and his passing is being treated as a line of duty death. Commander Smalley, 67, honorably served the Adams County Sheriff’s Office for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife. At the time of his passing, Commander Smalley served as the Commander of District 5, overseeing the Watkins and Strasburg areas. Throughout his distinguished career, he led several key programs, including the Explorer Post, Posse, Reserve Program, and Mobile Field Force, was heavily involved with the Rampart Search and Rescue Team and was a subject matter expert for driving instruction. His leadership, dedication, and influence were felt across the agency and the community. Beyond his professional achievements, Commander Smalley was widely known as a kind, genuine, and compassionate individual. He was a devoted husband, a trusted colleague, and a dear friend to many. His warm presence and unwavering commitment to serving others left an enduring impact on the countless people who had the privilege of knowing him. Commander Smalley’s contributions to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the community will forever be remembered. He will be deeply missed. The Colorado Police Officers Foundation (the foundation of the Colorado FOP) is assisting Adams County Lodge 1 FOP with a fundraiser for Karl Smalley's family. The Colorado Police Officers Foundation is 501c3 charity under the IRS rules and donations are tax deductible so please us the link below to donate. square.link/u/ipls3PF4
