Devastated by the loss of my dear friend, United Healthcare CEO Brian Th – just kidding, the one and only Kabir Singh (Kabir would’ve loved that joke and been mad if I didn’t try) Kabir was my best friend in comedy, and my biggest fan. He passed way in his sleep two nights ago. And didn’t even have the nerve to call first. We went to high school together, but I hated him back then because one time he cracked jokes in Saturday detention, made everyone laugh, and they held us in detention an extra hour. I will never forgive him for this. We became friends six years later when he told me he wanted to do stand up. I was a veteran comic of 6 months, so I generously offered him a set at my demoralizing pizzeria show. He somehow lit the place up in a way I’d never seen, which, of course, made me hate him more. Kabir was what you call a natural. He’d make anyone smile with his endearing self-deprecation mixed with calling everyone “buddy”. A genuinely nice human. And a fun hang (very unlike me). He called me his “mentor” even though he never listened to my advice. But I did make him stronger by doing what any good comedy mentor does – constantly telling him his jokes sucked. For years we went everywhere together, trying to kill harder than one another, and when we didn’t, we’d blame the crowd. We called ourselves KO Comedy. And well, now it’s just O Comedy (that’s the sound of a lone groan). Kabeezy and I developed very different styles, but anyone who knows us, knows we influenced each other more than anyone else. I will forever envy his ability to connect with strangers instantly. He talked, they laughed. He laughed, they laughed. Even if he bombed, they laughed. Having to follow his unfollowable sets made me the comic I am today. Any time he’d see me, he’d give me a hug and kiss and tell me how thankful he is to be living his dream as a comedian, and that he owed it to me. If you saw peak Kabeezy (check out his AGT or Dry Bar set), you’d know what an honor it is to have been a part of this dream. You’re a legend, my brother. There’s so much more I could say, but this app- just like fate- cuts things unexpectedly short. I’ll always miss you buddy
