Before him were Oba Owolabi I and Oba Oseni II. The latter's transition took place in 2021. The new Oba had lived in Awka for over 68 yrs. He arrived the city from Ede in present day Osun State as a 2 year old, brought by his late mother, Alhaja Afusat Olahan, to join his late father, who was a tailor, Hamzah Olahan.
