Feelings are important . . . but they're not facts.

Those are easier tergets but I remain skeptical. We would likely have serious addl casualties if multiple manned radar air defense systems were being taken out while actively defending against air attacks. War is deceipt of course, and that foes for borh sides, but decoys, interceptor units, and other lesser importance systems are the best bet for all but a few of any claimed or actual hits.

@CommMentor @esx1422 @NOELreports As well at the three (maybe four) THAADs, they've taken out AN/FPS 132 in Umm Dahal, Qatar. It may be this which people are confusing with a fourth.

Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command said it destroyed 4 US THAAD system radars in Al-Ruba, Al-Ruways, Al-Kharj, and Al-Azraq over the past 24 hours, claiming the strikes have degraded early warning for US and Israeli missile defense networks. #Iran

@DahliaKurtz And that is because Israel fights to protect them. That's a deal they don't get in any other country in the Middle East.

Druze enlistment in the IDF has hit 85%. Bedouin service is more than 60%. Arab Christian enlistment has tripled in the last year. Jew, Christians, Druze, and Muslims don't fight each other in Israel. They all fight together to protect Israel.

Possible, but I remain pretty sceptical. If you think the US and frankly any other rational player does not deploy multiple decoys for critical systems, then you simply don't know how such operations work. But yes I suppose it's possible they may have gotten lucky and gotten one of the real ones instead of a decoy, because we know the Chinese and Russians have been eager to pass on satellite data. Then again if I was a betting man or a woman, I'd go against and the odds would be strongly with the house on this one. But I suppose we'll see.

Yes, that's an important clarification. However the key components of those batteries Harper protected as well as a carrier in a strike group precisely because of that. Accordingly, I rate the chances of Iran having hit even one at about the same credibility level as their claim to have repeatedly struck the USS Roosevelt which is of course nonsense

@kskarm2006 @NOELreports @grok They haven't destroyed 4 radars - those are extraordinarily well protected and almost certainly none have been touched. There are 540 or so interceptors, they might have hit a few of those. Not significant in the context of this conflict. There are more vulnerable US targets.

So simple, clear, straightforward and obvious to all. Yet before this man, nobody say it never mind make it official policy. God bless you, President Bukele. I wish you could run all of LatAm from the Mex border all the way down to the Arg/Chile border.

MUST-SEE: President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele - "What about the human right of the women who don't want to be r*ped? What about the human right of kids to play, or to be free?" "But no, they were worried about the human rights of the k*llers."

Congress has 1 say for sure, and 1 maybe. They can cut off all use of federal funds for Iran combat. That's. certain power but it would require a ⅔ veto override which is impossible. Alternatively they could pass a limitations on military actions but that would be constitutionally suspect and would also require a ⅔ override. In practical terms, Congress has zero say until the next military budget cycle.

The USN can do the job, but I don't think any of this is necessarily relevant. The Arab Gulf States are completely reliant on safe passage through the Straights. The US can tell the Gulf States they need to turn over sufficient air bases to US freedom of of nav patrols and also use their own naval and air forces top join in the effort if they want to export oil and gas. This would be defensive only so it wouldn't cross any of their red lines and they would really have no choice but to go along b/c they cannot let the Straits remain closed indefinitely.

🚢Can the US Navy escort? The discussion about whether the @USNavy @US5thFleet can escort ships faces some logistical limitations. First, the 5th Fleet has the carrier Lincoln and 8 Burke destroyers and 3 Independence class LCS configured as minesweepers. To preform the escort, there would probably allocate 3 destroyers, leaving 3 to escort Lincoln and some for other duties or backup. The LCS would not be able to conduct minesweeping as the speed and rate of advance would be too fast, but they would probably attach one or two just in case. Second, they would escort ships into the Strait. These would be empty ships needing to get to facilities that are still operating and that fixtures are in place for the ships and cargo; and, of course, the ships have the requisite war risk insurance in place. Third, the escort missiom would start in the Gulf of Oman and not be like WWII lines of ships. Instead the Burkes would probably perform a similar tactic they used in the Red Sea of forming a barrier between Iran and the Strait with ships running to the south of them. There would need to be aircover, both fixed and helicopters to deal with threats. Depending on the Iranian response, the ships would either pass through or abort (this happened on Jan 9, 2024 in the Bab el-Mandeb). Fourth, once into the Gulf, ships could disperse or the destroyers could shift along the coast of Iran to provide a shield as ships head into porta as far north as Kuwait or Iraq. The expenditure of weapons would be a concern as reloading is an issue as Bahrain is vulnerable and it cannot be done underway. Fifth, the return out would require a similar operation by the escorts, with some reinforcements coming from outside the Strait. This would be the most dangerous aspect as ships are loaded. The most dangerous ships would be the LNG and LPG tankers, followed by product and then crude carriers. There would again be an issue of how many ships can be escorted as there is an estimated 750 ships in the Gulf, including 5 US flag ships. The arrival of the Bush battle group in the Med and Ford through Suez can be an effort to put an escort force together by mid-week. All of this is conjecture by me based on historical examples and knowledge of Navy operations.

BBC News: "Iran's Assembly of Experts has reached a consensus on who will replace Supreme Leader Khamenei - but they say some "obstacles" remain in the appointment" By "obstacles" they presumably mean his life expectancy measured in days as soon as they announce his name.
