Had to block "Up Learn": A) Fed up of seeing Birbalsingh's face staring @ me recommending it, how much she or her school have been paid for that& B) Michaela is not the "Best school in the country". It's a great school for its demographic. That's all.

@MrJDittman Maybe they came from Apple/IOS or Chromebook based schools. Just gone 100% Chromebook in my classroom as a test. Early results are that having kids behind a laptop they can open/close at my command is transformational, esp. with KS3. Just need to get school wifi sorted now!

As I fully expected, @x has decided that the guy who urged his followers three times to find my home address and hoped I would get attacked with a machete (in a now deleted tweet), did not break its rules, which merely confirms that there are no rules anymore. 1/

Right first the Mail, now the Express... Taking the mick. One headline in support of antiracism marches will not compensate for the decades of demonising migrants, refugees, Muslim people and anyone who does not look like that comical Pub Landlord.

Ironic, isn't it; that in decades of living in London, the only time I've felt unsafe on the streets and that there may be no go areas for me to enter tonight is when the far-right are planning their riots? I'm a white British man.

Just contacted school and volunteered my own person power to support our students and staff likely to be affected by this weekends far right racist violence. If you're still around and you can help you might consider offering your own help to those you care for and support.

@adamboxer1 My last NHS appointment involved the Dr being late for a 09:30 appointment. Three apologies were given, and at 11:30 I gave up and returned to school. Despite assurances to the contrary, the appointment wasn't rebooked and I need to see my GP for a new referral. Spectacular

some of the responses to this are 🙃🙃 sure, there *could* have been a massive emergency in a part of the hospital that deals exclusively with outpatients with conditions that do not lead to emergencies, but even if there were 1. Let the people waiting know 2. Apologise come on, honestly
Adam Boxer@adamboxer1

I get that the NHS is underfunded and that, but I'm sitting at 0959 waiting for a routine outpatient 0940 appointment, and I just don't understand how this happens. Why are people this late? How so early in the day? Why is this considered "normal"?

Genuinely as pleased that the pay settlement is fully funded as I am that is 2.5x inflation. Over the next few years BOTH salaries and school funding need to hear back to 2000s levels please.

@StuartLock @adamboxer1 Many in the profession laud this kind of effort. It is detrimental to our health and personal relationships and should not be something we have to celebrate and accept. It needs changing.

A story about tiredness. In 2002 I first became a head of year. 300 pupils. Year 9. Edmonton, North London. I was their third head of year, prob too inexperienced but was a tough school. Only applicant. I told them I’d see them to year 11 in my first assembly. They laughed.

Some Olympic events could be improved. E g race walking should be a multi-day endurance event in which competitors must never stop moving and the winner is the one who gets furthest without stopping. Now open for other suggestions. 👇

@PaulGarvey4 I agree: set summer hols to 5 weeks & have all the schools in each administrative area (Borough, County) set the same week in the year as leave. Allocate randomly by ballot nationally. Cheaper hols for kids, more kids in school, Cheaper hols for staff, small nudge to retention

School- term Holidays!! Just give all parents/carers the right to take one week, just one week, at any time of the year except exam time - let the school decide on that - and much of the problem would disappear overnight. The kids would not suffer one jot. RT, if you agree.

Lids closed when not in active use. Mirrors at back of classroom help too as does my position in the room. Interested to hear the strategies other CS teachers use in our "context" to help this conundrum.

@adamboxer1 interesting discussion on context within a school on this week's pod. Currently working hard on context withim a classroom. Computers are massively distracting and physical devices to hide behind. Moving to Chromebook laptops next year to ensure they remain
