@RobertJBateman At the time i was flabbergasted as suspicious as to why they were let off; this says it all. Great piece.

In March, the ICO concluded an investigation into retail facial recognition firm Facewatch, finding no action was required Facewatch boasted in a (deleted) post that this "judgement" meant that it was "fully compliant". It now seems the government might have influenced the ICO.

@EerkeBoiten @MissIG_Geek @Abebab Meh. That's working to others priorities and not your own. That's the quickest way to fail and not get what you need done and when based on the whole picture of your to do list...and the quick response means you are constantly on edge waiting for things to drop..

@ComplianceClar1 Depends which plot you mean….if it’s the one where the regulatory body acts as a shield for abusive biz and govt while hampering individual humans from exercising their rights, then they’re right on track AFAICT

So much WTF Surveillance is *not* care Software is *not* safety And ‘regulation’ means ENFORCING THE LAW AGAINST THOSE WHO BREAK IT, not doing free PR for the highest bidders

The best thing about being reunited with my phone is the kindness and thoughtfulness of the lovely people who found it, used Siri to call “Mum”, and followed her directions to return it to me. What absolute stars. I hope they live long and happy lives full of joy and love!!

@MartinSLewis As a proponent of overpayment when times were good (when rates v low) for when the hard times came (now), i was wondering if your tool in the calculation now takes into account the change in the interest rates over the remaining term to show even more benefits to do so?

@RobertJBateman I think given this and the main judgement re LI the only recourse for Meta is either.. a) leave the EU market b) make the service paywalled with data grab as part of the paid service terms. c) honour the judgement and do as it is told. Can't see c) EVER happening . bets are a)

"...Judgment C-252/21 concurs with the EDPB’s position that controllers can only rely on contract as legal basis for processing that is objectively necessary to perform the contract" It sure does. And this seriously harms Meta's chances of appealing certain Irish DPC decisions.
EDPB@EU_EDPB

The EDPB notes that the #ECJ in its judgment C-252/21 concurs with the EDPB’s position that controllers can only rely on contract as legal basis for processing that is objectively necessary to perform the contract

@MartinSLewis @CornwallInsight I wonder if there is anything in the electricity price not dropping as the govt are, and will do so more, loosing fuel duty and vat receipts from eVehicles and self generation and storage, and this is a way to surreptitiously make back and element of that loss..

New energy price cap predictions from @CornwallInsight. KNOWN: Price cap will drop average 17% this Sat. PREDICTION: Price cap will drop a further average 5% on 1 Oct (so 21% lower than now) PREDICTION: Price cap will rise average 1% in January (so 20% lower than now) The further out it is, the more crystal ball gazing it is.

@MissIG_Geek Ahh this is pure truth and pure FACT gold. It is plainly evident that the model of regulator and educator for business, is a mutually incompatible requirement and needs to be functionally split into different roles and organisations. Simples. No conflict of interest.

It’s so very UK today that a regulator publicly states that they won’t do their job properly and frames that as a virtue rather than an abdication of its duty of care to the nation’s people. If you’re wondering how biz gets away with abusing your data - it’s because of this 👇🏽

Devices with a "voice recognition feature". According to Florida's new Digital Bill of Rights. 1. A 19th Century "phonautograph", used for "recording... sounds." 2. Cups on a string, used for "transmission (of) sounds." 3. A Neanderthal bone flute, which "use(s)" sound.
