This deserves to go viral, as it conveys the truth while also protecting the reputation of the university, since the claims were essentially false. Mr. Fubara unfortunately passed away at his home during the Easter break. The public also deserves to hear and share this truth.

PRESS RELEASE UPDATE ON GUO BUS KIDNAPPING INCIDENT ALONG BENIN-LAGOS EXPRESSWAY ......EDO COMMAND RESCUES NINE (9) KIDNAP VICTIMS FROM TWO (2) SEPARATE INCIDENTS @EdoPoliceNG is pleased to inform the general public that all victims abducted during the recent kidnapping incident along the Benin–Lagos Expressway have been successfully rescued alive. This breakthrough was achieved following the immediate and massive deployment of tactical teams, intelligence assets, aerial surveillance, and other operational resources by the Commissioner of Police CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, to the affected corridor. The sustained rescue efforts, coordinated bush-combing operations, and strategic domination of the area exerted pressure on the kidnappers ultimately leading to the safe rescue of all victims. They have since received medical evaluation and treatment, and reunited with their families. In a related development, the Command also successfully rescued four (4) other kidnapped victims who were abducted earlier this month and held in captivity within the Imiegba forest in Agenebode. They have likewise received medical attention and are safe, making a total of Nine (9) kidnapped victims rescued. The Edo State Police Command wishes to reassure the public, particularly commuters and residents, that security deployment along the Benin–Lagos Expressway and adjoining communities has been significantly strengthened. Tactical, intelligence, and operational assets have been fully activated across the axis, and these deployments will remain in place until the route is completely safe and secure for all road users. The Command is also intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of these heinous crimes. We are confident that all those involved will be tracked down and brought to justice in the shortest possible time. ASP ENO IKOEDEM, POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, EDO STATE COMMAND. 24th April, 2026.

To whom it may concern as copied from Taiwo Aromolarn on LinkedIn. Young lawyers, if you walk into court with these 7 authorities, no objection will take you off guard: 1. Atanda & Ors v. Ajani & Ors (1989) When to use this: Opposing counsel tries to introduce evidence or elicit testimony on facts not pleaded in the statement of claim or defence. Your response: “My Lord, this evidence goes to no issue. The facts it seeks to establish were never pleaded. We urge the court to discountenance it as it is inadmissible.” 2. Section 1(1) of the Evidence Act Torti v. Ukpabi (1984), citing Kuruma v. The Queen (1955) When to use this: Opposing counsel objects to your evidence on the grounds of how it was obtained e.g., arguing it was improperly or illegally obtained. You respond: “My Lord, relevance is the basis of admissibility. Once the evidence is relevant to the matters in issue, it is admissible. How it was obtained is of no moment at this stage.” 3. Ndu v. State (1990); FRN v. Saraki When to use this: Opposing counsel discloses information not contained in his pleadings or affidavit from the Bar. Your response: “My Lord, the law is trite. No matter how brilliant Counsel’s oral address is, it cannot take the place of evidence. The court of law is a court of facts and facts are established when supporting evidence is adduced. 4. Akpan v. Bob & Ors (2011) When to use this: The opposing counsel suggests that your brief is defective and should be struck out. Your response: “My Lord, even where a brief is alleged to be bad, the only consequence the court may visit upon it is an adverse comment. It has no jurisdiction to regard such a brief as no brief at all… It cannot strike it out on the premises of being bad.” 5. NNPC v. Clifco Nig. Ltd. (2011) When to use this: After winning, opposing party resists a costs order; Your response: “My lord, costs follow the event in litigation. A successful party should not be deprived of the fruits of litigation unless there are specific reasons why he should be deprived of his entitlement.” 6. Sodipo v. Lemminkainen & Anor (1986) When to use this: Opposing counsel objects to an affidavit because it was deposed to by a lawyer. How to respond: “My Lord, an affidavit sworn by counsel is not objectionable in principle. It is only improper where the subject-matter involves privileged client communication or places counsel in a position of being cross-examined. Neither condition is present here.” Which of these stood out to you? P.S: Lawyers, what case law will you recommend as no. 7?👇👇 Save this post for later Repost for other lawyers Best legal write up I’ve seen all week.

The Supreme Court decision of Friday, 10 April, 2026, that set aside the Ruling of the Court of Appeal which disallowed the appearance of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Wole Olanipekun and Muiz Banire, as counsel for Neconde Energy Limited and Nestoil Limited, respectively in the action instituted by FBN Quest Merchant Bank Limited and FBN Trustees Limited has continued to reverberate across the legal and business community as landmark and decisive. In a unanimous judgment of the court read by Mohammed Baba Idris, JSC., the Supreme Court held that the Court of Appeal erred by allowing a receiver manager whose appointment was under challenge to perform functions including appointing counsel for the appellant in the proceeding which challenges the very foundation of the receivership.
The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal had by Ruling delivered on 23 January, 2026, held that the receiver appointed by the plaintiffs, FBNQuest and FBN Trustees,  over some assets of the duo of Neconde and Nestoil was upon his appointment vested with wide powers over the companies including the power to sue and the sole authority competent to appoint counsel for the companies in an action instituted by the said plaintiffs. In the decision of the Court of Appeal delivered by Yargat Nimpa, JCA; Danladi Senchi, JCA and Polycarp Kwahar, JCA, it held that the appearance of counsel not appointed by the receiver in the suit remained irregular and accordingly, disqualified Olanipekun and Banire, as well as their respective team from appearing for the companies.

We saw the video, we acted, and here is where things stand. When (Rhapstar) posted the viral video on 4 April 2026, alleging misconduct by officers from the Satellite Town Division, Lagos, we took the matter seriously and acted immediately. The DPO and the officers involved were summoned, statements were obtained, and detailed interviews were conducted. Preliminary findings indicate the incident occurred in May 2025. We are working to obtain additional details directly from the victims, as their accounts are central to the investigation. This process is not a cover-up; it is a demonstration of accountability. The Leadership of the Force management team, has emphasized that the rule of law is non-negotiable in the discharge of police duties nationwide. No officer is above accountability, and no incident is too old to investigate. The investigation is ongoing. We will provide regular updates. To every Nigerian who spoke up, your voice prompted accountability, as it should be.
