@GreyAlien 2008: Went indie making Flash games. 2014: In the middle of running a browser based MMO and working on a second F2P game for Steam that ultimately failed. 2024: Scaled down a few years ago. Still going, have released a game on PC/Console - working on two more. It’s hard!

@Tasselfoot @KupoGames All that and the homogenous nature of AAA too as we hit peak production costs. Risk is too high all round. Hard to break out of that cycle when expectations are constantly being set as “bigger” and “better”, so you need a safe base to work from.

@KupoGames This feels like a few things converging: - The average gamer plays 3-4 games a year, total - People don't finish games - Sooo many games are heavily inspired by older games, so many games form together in a "genre" of oldgame-likes - Live service, DLCs, etc

There's a lot of great games out there that don't get much attention because there exists a similar game that's like 5% better, and I think that's kind of sad. The older I get, the more I look at games and think "wow, I would have loved this if I had played it earlier".

@dannyodwyer It’s a weird thing for sure. Looking at the Romero footage you posted, it feels like time travel some how.

This stuff is like colorized WW2 footage for sicko gamers in their late 30s.

@ConOfTheArtist The Last Stand series has definitely been an important reference for us, so I hope we are channeling a little of that vibe. In fact, I watched another retrospective on the whole series just last week. Both IPs have been on a hell of a journey.
