@bergeambe I love all the ppl saying the women don’t deserve more bc their league doesn’t make more as if that isn’t structural sexist right there! Their games haven’t historically been televised during high viewership hours, they haven’t been promoted and marketed like the men, etc, etc.

America hasn’t had a President who was fluent in a language other than English since World War II.... Before the mid 20th Century, multilingualism among US presidents was not unusual. In fact, it was often expected. Early American leaders were shaped by classical education and long diplomatic careers abroad. John Adams was fluent in French and used it daily while serving as a diplomat in Europe. Thomas Jefferson spoke French fluently and read Latin Greek Italian and Spanish. He believed learning languages sharpened moral and political judgment. James Monroe also spoke French fluently from his years in Paris during the early years of the republic. The most gifted linguist to ever hold the office was John Quincy Adams. He spoke or read at least six languages and often wrote personal diary entries switching between them mid sentence. Martin Van Buren grew up speaking Dutch and learned English later in life making him the only president whose first language was not English. Even Theodore Roosevelt read French and German fluently and consumed books in multiple languages daily. By the time Roosevelt entered office in 1933, that tradition was already fading. After World War II, English dominance in global diplomacy and shifting educational priorities made multilingual presidents increasingly rare even as the nation itself grew more linguistically diverse. John Quincy Adams once served as US minister to Russia and learned Russian well enough to negotiate directly with court officials without an interpreter. © History Pictures #archaeohistories

“Every time we turn our heads the other way when we see the law flouted, when we tolerate what we know to be wrong, when we close our eyes and ears to the corrupt because we are too busy or too frightened, when we fail to speak up and speak out, we strike a blow against freedom and decency and justice.” ― Robert F. Doctors should be very worried. Health insurers are about to do with AI what they already did with nurse practitioners. It will start innocently enough: cheaper “AI-first” plans with $0 copays if you let the algorithm handle your visit. Employers will jump on it to cut premiums. This will be a no-brainer for countries with socialized medicine as well. Within a few years, routine visits like refills, minor complaints, lab follow-ups will begin with an AI system that listens, triages, codes, and prescribes. A human doctor will only step in if something looks complex or risky. That’s exactly how nurse practitioners went from “helping” doctors to replacing them as the front line of primary care. Don't get me wrong, FNP's are great, but the initial "promise" years ago was that they would be physician extenders only. The difference this time? AI doesn’t get tired, doesn’t need supervision, can be instantly updated with new algorithms and bills at a fraction of the cost. For insurers, it’s simple math. For doctors, it’s an existential shift. Would you see the AI doctor for a minor complaint if it cost you nothing?

@DrCarlHindy Agreed. One bad egg doesn’t make a bad dozen, right? You have to look at long term data. One is too many, but less shootings is always better than MORE.

How did you assess whether the laws are helping? Texas and Florida both have had more than 5X the mass shootings in the last twenty years (270 and 237, respectively) than has Minnesota (49). Mass shootings here defined as ones where there were at least 4 injuries or deaths excluding the shooter. While yesterday’s shooting was horrific, I do believe we can make progress with carefully considered, implemented and enforced laws. And we need to address the gun narratives, “gun culture” issues, and as always improve our mental health systems.

@DrCarlHindy @StephenKing Minnesota is a fucking gun control libtard's wet dream. Laws still didn't help dumbass.

We’ve spent years warning about the internet’s dangers for girls, yet platforms are bleeding our boys dry—financially, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s time to shine a light on this crisis, to pull back the curtain on the apps and algorithms profiting off of our boys’ and men’s despair. Read my latest for Evie: eviemagazine.com/post/how-big-t…

A homeless man has captured the attention of thousands, not for begging, but for the way he rocks his dog to sleep every night. When asked why, he explained that life hadn’t always been this way. “When I first got him, we had an apartment,” he said softly. “Living on the street has been a hard adjustment for him. The honking, the sirens, the people, it keeps him up. So every night, I make sure he’s asleep before I close my eyes.” #dog #wholesome #dogs #doglover

It strikes me that X posters who identify with sweepingly broad and negative feelings and beliefs toward mental health care complain both about the power and the lack of power of these professionals. They complain about their awareness and their lack of awareness, their authority and their lack of authority, what they powerfully give and powerfully take away, and how they cause human suffering while for others are God-sent. It led me to ask ChatGPT to draw a picture of a mental health professional that looks like a Rorschach Inkblot, as I think about the role of projections in all of these personal ascriptions to mental health and those who practice it …

@fredfernack @DrCarlHindy Now, just like with child abuse, we can all agree it’s horrible and make it illegal, but that doesn’t mean it will never happen. So I’m not going to sit here and pretend that no therapist will ever commit a crime or her to patient, knowingly or otherwise. It DOES happen.

@fredfernack @DrCarlHindy It’s also important to note that you said across decades. Mental healthcare has evolved massively in just the last decade or two. Part of that evolution is through science. It’s not as theoretical as it once was, and most interventions are actually based in research.
