This Hausa–Fulani mentality ya fara mun when we were young because of some misconceptions, like assuming a fair Hausa person is Fulani, or someone with long hair is also Fulani, etc.
I remember when I was younger, I had long black hair. We often went to the back of the class with my classmates just for them to see and admire it. By seeing my hair, they concluded I was Fulani😭🤣

The relationship between the Hausa and Fulani cannot be broken. There is no family in the core north where you won't find both Hausa and Fulani members, which is why some identify as Hausa-Fulani. Indeed, the Hausa and Fulani are not a single ethnic group, each has its own distinct identity, culture, history and heritage that deserves recognition but attempting to forcibly separate the two, after centuries of integration is not realistic. Our long-standing coexistence, intermarriage and intertwined history have created deep social connections that cannot simply be undone.
