This community note is damage control.
1. I never said the U.S. government lacked intel; I said they failed to warn the public.
2. In fact, they knew 24 hours beforehand that some variant of the RS-26 would be fired (see my timeline from the previous day) and chose not to inform the international community. They did, however, evacuate embassies for unknown reasons.
3. Just because the Russians claimed "30 minutes before" that the launch would be non-nuclear doesn’t mean they were being truthful. In a real-world scenario, you would expect them to lie. This is why warning the public would be essential.
4. The U.S. could have issued a press release to notify people about what was about to happen.
The reason they didn’t inform the public is the same reason Ukraine told its citizens in February 2022 that Russia wouldn’t invade: they wanted to avoid panic and minimize attention to this nuclear game of chicken.
Their entire strategy is that Putin is just bluffing. You're 100% on your own when SHTF.
