@AirlineFlyer Is the MTA bus over the Bayonne bridge to HBLR still a thing? Not that it would help you on this route
English

@hsrgood @alanthefisher Wait, there's no way these are still in regular operation!? I took a joyride during a Greyhound layover maybe 6-8 years back
English

@Rafa_CathPR No necesariamente.

@mdasilva1563 @YIMBY_Princeton @Union_Tpke @A320Lga @upzonenj @UrbanJerseyGuy @2AvSagas @alon_levy @Zmapper @bensh__ @JamesLLlamas @_blahblahblah My point tho is that it shouldn't have to be that way. They're allowed on FDR for a short stretch, so there's no reason they're forced to use local streets rather than West Side Highway
English

@JamesLLlamas @YIMBY_Princeton @Union_Tpke @A320Lga @upzonenj @UrbanJerseyGuy @2AvSagas @alon_levy @Zmapper @bensh__ @mdasilva1563 @_blahblahblah My point exactly. Many Peter Pan and Greyhound drivers just say fuck it and run West Side Highway anyway and risk the ticket, and some will even go Lincoln Tunnel + GWB/Tappan Zee. Going via local streets is a nightmare most times

@YIMBY_Princeton @Consult_JBF @Union_Tpke @A320Lga @upzonenj @UrbanJerseyGuy @2AvSagas @alon_levy @Zmapper @bensh__ @mdasilva1563 @_blahblahblah I’ve “enjoyed” many a tour of Harlem and Upper West Side surface streets on buses from Hartford to PABT. Seemed suboptimal for all involved.

@YIMBY_Princeton @Union_Tpke @A320Lga @upzonenj @UrbanJerseyGuy @2AvSagas @alon_levy @Zmapper @bensh__ @JamesLLlamas @mdasilva1563 @_blahblahblah You're forgetting everything coming from New England that gets stuck running local Manhattan streets, and Bronx express buses. The market is predominently midtown, so regardless of where a bus is coming from, most of them want to reach midtown. GWBBT is inconvenient for most.
English

@Consult_JBF @Union_Tpke @A320Lga @upzonenj @UrbanJerseyGuy @2AvSagas @alon_levy @Zmapper @bensh__ @JamesLLlamas @mdasilva1563 @_blahblahblah OK, so (1) if a bus is coming from north of GWB, it is supposed to use the GWB Bus Station in Wash Heights. (2) If a bus is not coming from north of GWB, it is supposed to use the XBL. Put those two things together, and there is no sensible reason for buses to be on that parkway.
English

@mdasilva1563 That's basically the only reasoning I can see for it, especially with transit. With regular buses like charter, I can see NYS not trusting drivers to not fuck up and go past the GWB

@ThunderWolf08 Why the aversion always to restoring abandoned/rail trailed ROWs? Why add pointless mileage when the better option is still available
English

@iloveportwine @cory_ep It opens the door for major operational complexities

@TheLIRRToday @LIRR It's not even that it's not the most critical to fix. Private ops serve much smaller populations both in terms of ridership & regionality, where as LIRR is traversing the entirety of LI serving various markets. The ops with smaller scope are the ones who need to match, not LIRR
English

@Consult_JBF @LIRR I agree there are many factors & on the list of problems with these schedules, this ranks very low. Of the two parties, the one that just got $17 billion worth of public money for capacity expansions earns the 👎 but I agree it's not the most critical to fix.
English

Another ferry fail with @LIRR's new schedules. The daily ferry from Montauk to Block Island leaves Montauk Harbor at 10:00a. What time does the first LIRR train from the city get you there on weekends? 10:04a.
The return trip also misses train 6017 on Sundays by 2 minutes.
