One thing I will say is this is a very nicely made book. High quality paper, strong and flexible binding. It feels great to hold and turn the pages in, luxurious really

Practically everything he found was price-gouging from contractors or outsourcing. The mindbending part of DOGE was that it was going to increase public spending by cutting public staff. Building state capacity saves money.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Government must deliver for working people—and every dollar in our budget should work as hard as they do. That’s why I directed every agency to cut waste and help close our budget gap. Here’s some of what we found.

the greatest danger AND greatest value of deciding you are a "marxist" is the unearned arrogance it licenses to summarily dismiss huge swathes of scholarship and opinion

Disagree w many parts of this piece, but the explanation of why war w Iran has 0 to negative utility to the US is good. Major US interests in ME are Gulf Oil & Suez Shipping. No threats to to them existed b4, but war w Iran threatens both. Only Israel benefits.

Well, I am not sure what my analysis here is worth, but here is my 7,500 word primal scream of a military historian's take on the War in Iran. My best summary: this war is dumb as hell. acoup.blog/2026/03/25/mis…

@sobernsleepless So ig I interpret such posting as something that allows them to benefit from the cultural capital of seeming woke while policing the boundaries of such speech so the critique doesn't turn on them or their privilege.

@sobernsleepless Interesting; I didn't know too much about the algorithmic networks. What I've noticed is the people who repost such rhetoric are UC diaspora who embrace woke language for its cultural capital while refusing to criticize Zionism & Hindutva bc that would harm their own privilege.

I think the big reason why China isn't creating a universal hegemonic project is that historically it's relied on outsourcing that work to the US hegemonic project and leveraging its power within that framework. Not the best approach when the US institutional order is faltering.
Dilawar Karwan@RashmanTheHorse

This is as revealing about Chinese foreign policy as it is about the Taliban. It seems that even when it comes to national security matters, the PRC is essentially transactional. A rising hegemon should be able to integrate its own objectives into a seemingly universal project.

@gurtukochavu My hometown is a college town but I go to college in a real city lol. It's a pretty massive upgrade, esp in terms of food and activity quality. There's only like a couple decent restaurants in my hometown lol.

I do not think this is a major thing or why the Indian left is doomed lol. The actual issue is the excessive centering of the white collar section of Indian society, which is intertwined with this excessive focus on a few edgy comments.
rebecca ♡ ರೆಬೆಕ್ಕಾ@runawaystarss

the indian left is just so doomed because many times indian leftists will be making great points about bjp, hindutva, casteism, sanghis etc and they'll end it with "and this is why all indians deserve to get hate crimed" like ok you lost me.

He was well-liked by Nehru (who was sleeping with his wife with his knowledge and encouragement) and he had a pretty hands-off way of dealing with Partition and gave both the Congress and Muslim League pretty much what they wanted contrary to slop AngloWoke views on this.

Interesting point in Glassman's work is that certain elites support militarism bc it brings militaristic discipline to the workplace. Def a theme for Sun Belt historians to explore. Does the region's militarization filter into the workplace & interact w racial hierarchies there?

On the Gulf front, the UAE is absolutely using its forward alignment with Lindsay Graham and 🇮🇱 to sell its status as the future guarantor of the Gulf to Washington. This groveling has paid off in recent sanctions against the "MB in Sudan," but also in introducing a threshold of
