Who is Jens Kjeldsen? Jens Erik Kjeldsen has spent years sailing the world’s oceans, departing from Greenland in his own sailboat. Together with his wife, Dorthe Kjeldsen, He completed a circumnavigation of the globe, sailing from Greenland through the Northwest Passage and continuing via routes that included South America. During a voyage in Greenlandic waters back in 2018, Jens and Dorthe Kjeldsen became involved in a rescue operation later shown in a DR documentary. A woman was rescued from the icy waters of Disko Bay following a serious accident involving a small boat. She was the only survivor after several others lost their lives. The rescue took place after the woman had spent several hours in the water. Their voyages were carried out aboard their privately owned sailboat Kigdlua, which served as both home and means of transport during long periods at sea. Along the way, they crossed both the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans. After completing their circumnavigation, the sailing continued. In 2022, Jens Kjeldsen sailed alone from Greenland toward Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean, a journey described in Greenlandic media as the fulfillment of a long-held personal dream. The journey was later completed when the couple sailed together again and returned to Greenland. Jens Erik Kjeldsen and his wife have sailed more than 32,000 nautical miles during their voyages.

Today marks exactly one year since Trump wrote on Truth Social that American ownership and control of Greenland were an “absolute necessity” for U.S. national security. The statement shocked almost the entire population of Greenland. And today Trump has appointed the Governor of Louisiana as his special envoy to Greenland—who, immediately after his appointment, wrote: “It’s an honor to serve you in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the U.S.” The message from Greenland 🇬🇱 remains clear and unequivocal: the future of Greenland is decided solely by the Greenlandic people—not by Trump or his administration. We stand together. We stand firm. Greenland 🇬🇱 have strong international support from Canada 🇨🇦 the Nordic countries 🇫🇮🇳🇴🇸🇪🇩🇰🇮🇸 the EU 🇪🇺 the United Kingdom 🇬🇧France 🇫🇷 Australia 🇦🇺 New Zealand 🇳🇿 and many others. The majority of Americans also reject Trump’s ambition to take over Greenland. Trump will never get Greenland. We are a strong society, and we will continue our struggle through democratic means.
