I've celebrated their return, slept on it & now have thoughts about the caps on capital grants. First-some form of cap is probably sensible But whilst a £35k cap on boundary work sounds like a lot, when you see what that gets, it might slow progress towards environment targets

@AnnaLongthorp Same! Its complex, its hard to get it but doesn’t make it any less frustrating.I read a thread of someone from NHS saying how its right money being redirected to NHS, no recognition of the poor #health of the nation&that we’re on the same ‘side’ #prevention over cure,or lack of!

@sussexfarming Yep. Its money the government are paying farmers for a service, a contract that farmers have with the government. Money that is owed to farmers not some generous gift or subsidy

To be clear, Government ministers boasting 300 million paid to farmers in December, great effort by @Rurpay but on 1st December 2020 farmers received 1.67 billion to subsidise food production, the 300 million is for schemes so benefits nature not food production

This is a really good, fair explanation of the #FamilyFarmTax issue by @pkelso on @SkyNews The only caveat that I will add is that up until now farmers have been effectively advised to do nothing because all options like the 7 year rule etc have potential stings in their tails and come with risk. Which leaves many elderly farmers (average age is over 60 I think) with very few options… @StuartMaggs - I think this is a good summary. What do you think?

@hopcroft_iain @DaveGoulson Yeah. I get that. I really do. But anything that continues to divide conservation and farming is doing both a disservice. We can do better than that

Didn't Just Stop Oil folk get arrested and imprisoned for impeding traffic? And they were selflessly trying to save the planet, while these people are trying to avoid paying 50% of a tax everyone else has to pay.
