Not a good time to be in the physical product business. As if things weren't challenging enough for us small businesses to stay afloat, these tariffs are going to put so many businesses under. Even though we currently manufacture in the US and our (very high) costs are going to go up even more. I don't think people realize that consumers are going to pay for this. Maybe I should start a software business.

In After Effects is there a better Edge Extend (with color) than blur, levels crunch, and cc composite? There's got to be a better way

@FullHarbor Played on high school team, then stopped for 20 years. TopGolf reignited my love a couple years ago and I have been trying to get out on the course to play more recently. Only played about 3 rounds in 3 years, but more to come hopefully! 🤞

Been playing golf nearly weekly lately. Definitely plan on keeping this up when I get back to AZ. What other motion designers out there golf? ⛳️

@friedpixels @weareMK12 I just remember having to think, is this pixel aspect ratio 0.9, or do I design with square pixels at 720x540, or do I scale it up to squash/stretch the graphics to look right… 🤦square pixels ftw!

@CopperSoffit @weareMK12 The jump to HD was like oh crap how do we render so many more pixels?!? Also... trying to upscale older work, was much more intense.

@aembury And here I thought you basically retired from animation to do home renovations and carpentry a couple years ago. I’ve been paying less attention to “socials” lately, but glad to see you’ve been killing it as always. 💪

@CopperSoffit Yehhhh, has it happen on a few films over the last few years… A big reason why I backed away from wanting to work in film.

@aembury I’m sorry, you WHAT now?!? Must have missed the memo that you were working on that film! Sucks to go uncredited for the work though. Maybe I would have known! 😉

@TheSpaceshipper I had this exact thing happen to me on Spider-Man: No Way Home. I was told by the studio they were only given two credit spots and even though I did all the concepting, animation and comp - I did not get the credit because it didn’t look good for the business. Cool.

@Oddernod @990adjustments I also don’t think _we_ are his audience for these videos. He made a great post about why he intentionally chooses simple language (e.g., “fix”) and how he’s talking to layman. Obviously they aren’t tutorials, or the whole picture, but Alan knows that. He’s a good designer…🤷

He’s a legit great designer but the “fix it” clickbait angle is really setting people off. And it doesn’t help that none of these three really improve on the originals (there’s zero chance that Olympics one would pass the first review) I love the idea of “what if I got the brief” as a creative challenge - it’s just the positioning for clicks shuts most down.

I definitely don’t agree with the criticism he is receiving. I have a hate/love relationship with these things. Here, I don’t think the results improve on the originals. Also, building off something that eliminates the real challenges of approvals/opinions is a different game.

People who are ripping up Allan today need to go outside and touch grass. He's an insanely talented designer who understands the game. What he's built is a fun and engaging content play that attracts clients to hire him for his services, where he has to deal with all of the aforementioned pressures of being a designer. It's a smart top-of-funnel strategy and actually shows his ability to think quickly and generate ideas. It's clearly working, he has tons of high-level clients like Target and Star Wars. I'd bet he has a hit-list of clients he WANTS to work for and uses this as a form of outreach. What if instead of complaining, you created?

Fun FB memory today: 8 months prior to @BoredApeYC existing and 2 months before I learned WTF an NFT is - took this pic as a joke on this day in 2020 thinking "this is what classy rich folk wear on boats" 4 years later and still not rich or classy🫡😂

One of my favorite projects was when we captured tons of absolutely real PBR clay materials (including plasticine movie clay) for our members. Perfect for zbrush sculpts or claymation vibes.

@Arcane_Motion @JCTecklenburg For sure! Also the amount of highly technical stuff I was taught that I didn’t understand until years later and then eventually have forgotten is astounding. Still not 100% sure I FULLY understand continually rasterize vs. collapse transformation, render order, etc.

I recently started using an M3 Max Macbook Pro (more on that later) and this latest update from @maxonredshift has drastically improved the interactivity. It's kinda astonishing. 🤯

@kevinbparry @NotionHQ Yeah, it CAN be anything you make of it. But that’s the trap. Get too complicated too soon and you won’t use it or understand any of it.

@kevinbparry @NotionHQ I work for a college and so I have my roles at the college set as areas (committees, department, classes, etc). Each of those Areas have Projects associated with them and Resources assigned (colleagues, etc). I also have a Tasks database to link to Projects.
