@BethRigby Basically @Keir_Starmer and @YvetteCooperMP have to work with what comes next in Iran 🇮🇷 to hopefully bring back those in custody safely home. Any missteps could lengthen their stay or worse.

ANALYSIS: There’s been much criticism about Starmer not standing for anything. But on Iran, he has taken a stand against Trump. He will hope it lands well with his base, but more importantly, he will hope history will look favourably on his choice.

This PMQs was dominated by talk about the conflict in the Middle East and Starmer having his "Love Actually moment" as he stands up to Trump. Analysis from Sky's @BethRigby ⬇️ Read more 🔗 trib.al/6aYwCts

The Iranian regime openly threatens the United Kingdom, our regional allies and the United States. Keir Starmer’s failure to work proactively with our American allies is damning.

Why has the UK government not proscribed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC are responsible for the ruthless killing of thousands of civilians in Iran during repeated crackdowns on peaceful protest. Beyond its brutal actions at home, it has supported and enabled Islamic extremist activity and instability far beyond Iran’s borders, exporting a dangerous ideology that undermines security across the Middle East and beyond. Many of us have called, time and again, for the IRGC to be formally proscribed in the United Kingdom. Yet despite the gravity of the evidence and the growing international concern, the government has so far failed to act. The British government must show some backbone and proscribe this brutal organisation now. Proscription would send a clear and unambiguous message that we will not tolerate state-backed extremism, nor allow operatives linked to such an organisation to operate freely on our soil. Where individuals are acting on behalf of, or in support of, the IRGC in the UK, the full force of the law should apply. At moments like this, leadership requires resolve. The government must demonstrate that it is prepared to defend our national security interests robustly and stand firmly against those who threaten the UK and our allies. Yet instead, every day that passes @Keir_Starmer shows us he is in government but not in power.

When the moment came to defend freedom and democracy: One answered the call The other didn’t Never has there been such a difference in resolve, confidence and leadership between a President and a Prime Minister.

Why do the Canadian PM and the Australian PM say they support the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, while the UK PM remains silent on that critical question? Do they have different international law advice? Or just better lawyers?

'I'm very disappointed in the stance the government has taken.' Former Head of Mi6, Sir Richard Dearlove, has accused the British government of 'sitting on the fence' over the US-Israeli strikes on Iran.

Never before has the United Kingdom been so weak on the international stage, and that weakness is directly a result of Keir Starmer being the Prime Minister. Abandoning allies, too weak to act. A shameful period in British Foreign policy.

Defence secretary John Healey is a decent man in a difficult job since, at a time of growing global threats, he’s part of a government that won’t spend more on defence. He also picked the short straw by having to do this morning’s media rounds. He was unable to answer a simple question put to him multiple times — do we or do we not support US/Israeli attacks on Iran? This after the government had 24 hours to agree an answer and after numerous meetings yesterday in Whitehall and on zoom to discuss it. It is surely incumbent on the government to have a position, one way or the other. Failure to do so condemns the UK to irrelevance, a route which Starmer has already taken us some way down.
