TALANTA SPORTS CITY STADIUM should be renamed “Kasongo Business Stadium.”
It is a scam, a real rip-off, and Kenyans will be shocked when the full details come out once Kasongo goes home. This is not a national project, it is a private business. Kasongo and his cartels will be earning KSh 6.8 billion every year for the next 15 years from Talanta Stadium once it is completed.
✅ The total construction cost of the stadium is a whopping KSh 44.8 billion, but since Kasongo cannot finance it at once, he opted to raise the money through “investors.”
✅ To complete the project, Kasongo has floated a 15-year bond worth KSh 44.8 billion, using the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund (SASDF) as collateral.
✅ For context, SASDF draws its revenue from betting and its own assets. As of now, the total assets owned by the fund are worth KSh 5.6 billion, with only KSh 3.3 billion of that being cash. The question is, how can a fund worth KSh 5.6 billion be used to guarantee a bond worth KSh 44.8 billion?
✅ It makes no sense. Even worse, there are no clear details about who these “investors” are. What we know is that the developers are building a private hotel inside Ngong Forest as part of the stadium’s so-called CSR.
✅ To justify this, Kasongo’s government claims it will raise the funds through an escrow account, a middleman setup where money and documents are held until conditions are met. In this case, no one knows who the “middleman” is. It could be a bank, an investor, or a proxy. There is zero transparency.
✅ The biggest shocker is that the KSh 44.8 billion has already been raised at a 15.04 percent annual interest rate for 15 years. This means taxpayers will end up paying KSh 100 billion in total. In simple terms, the “investors” will earn KSh 6.8 billion every year for 15 years without lifting a finger.
✅ To make things worse, the Sports Fund (SASDF) is set to expire in 2028, long before the bond matures. It depends on inflows from betting taxes and lotteries, which are barely enough to support such a massive bond.
✅ At a total cost of KSh 100 billion, the Talanta Sports City is now more expensive than world-class stadiums such as Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena (KSh 52.1 billion), Arsenal’s Emirates (KSh 70 billion), and Manchester City’s Etihad (KSh 72 billion).
✅ The Auditor General has already flagged KSh 1.2 billion wasted in the initial phase of construction, and it cannot be explained where the money went.
Talanta Sports City is the clearest example of state capture.
Some businessmen will be pocketing KSh 6.8 billion every year, or KSh 567 million a month, without ever leaving their beds.

HAVE YOU NOTICED ALL ROADS THAT HAD STALLED SINCE 2021 IN YOUR AREA ARE NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION?
This is the magic button the President pressed to make this possible.
The government paid 40% of the pending bills owed to those road project contractors.
Further payments to the contractors were made depending on whether they resumed work on the stalled road projects and upon production of a performance certificate of work.
The Ministry of Roads had over Ksh. 177 in pending bills and 40% translates to around Kss. 70 Billion.
