@H0und0fG0d The point isn't for the kid to learn how to add 8+9. The point is for the kid to learn how to break down math problems into simpler problems that can be added together. This way the kid can solve larger problems that he hasn't just memorized.

If missiles were dropping on US cities the two factions in US politics would be "we should bomb them into the stone age" and "we should exterminate their entire country".
Salman Soz@SalmanSoz

@ishaantharoor I think that is a key reason the US engages in so many wars. If missiles were dropping on US cities, politicians would be more restrained. The only impact on Americans seems to be about gas prices. The people in the theater have their lives and livelihoods to protect. Unfair.

@Ian_Fisch @IsThisA3DModel LSPs and TreeSitter are perfectly good for finding sections of code you need. Claude can't load your entire project into context it will just grep keywords based off your prompt. You can do that yourself.

@IsThisA3DModel Gen AI is rightfully mocked, but refusing to use Claude or Codex on a complicated codebase is just inefficient. If nothing else, you can use it to quickly find a section of code you’re looking for. Much much better than existing search methods.

So I didn’t get to post this during the game because the game was moving faster than the internet, but this was a ‘held ball’ with 30 seconds left in Loretto/East Nashville … I don’t know that I’ve ever seen that ‘tie-up’ result in a held ball …

@momndad2boys @ben1_benson Looks like he's exaggerating his footwork. Probably working on something specific making it look awkward. This is what spring practice is for

@ben1_benson He can work on his footwork and route running because they are slow and sloppy. That’s why spring practice and off season program is important.

@PatriotJoeDaily They use like 12 angles to track the 3d image of the ball in space. This is talking about where they position the "strike zone" in that space. They chose the midpoint of the plate even though that's not what the rule is because it gave them the results they liked the best.

@rationalyankee Newbee here. Why can’t they use the front view along with a synchronized side view to “see” the 3D position of the ball? Maybe would require a higher speed side camera but it should work pretty well.

The rulebook defines the strike zone as a 3D volume. Any part of the ball crossing any part of that space is a strike. ABS uses a 2D plane at the plate’s midpoint. MLB tested the literal rulebook version first. The 3D zone produced inconsistent calls on breaking balls. Evaluating at the front edge turned slow curveballs that bounced in the dirt into called strikes. The midpoint plane was chosen because it tracked closest to how umpires have been calling the zone in practice for decades. The legitimate criticism here is that the rulebook was never updated to match what the system actually does. That’s a real process failure. But calling it a technical limitation implies they couldn’t get it right. They tested it, didn’t like what it produced and made a deliberate choice.
Moveouttheway, peck@feelitmon

@rationalyankee Good point, including where you refer to the “ABS strike zone” instead of the strike zone. The ABS system’s technical limitations cause its strike zones to violate the official MLB rules. It moves the 2D vertical plane from the front of the plate to its midpoint — still wrong.

@therealmudddawg Who's call is this? The covering official watched the shooter land clean and the defender blow by, then turned to see the shot go in, then sees the shooter on the ground when he turns back. Can guess what happened but didnt see it. I don't officiate basketball so I'm curious.

@Krisplashed Exactly. I tell young HS officials at camps: watch for the 1st one call it, don't be a chump and only call the 2nd one. Protect a player from non-basketball crap so they don't feel the need to stand up for themselves which usually ends with a fight.

@chrischin333 Tbf he didn't actually see it. He watches the shooter land clean, turns to see if the shot went in, turns back to see dude on the ground. That gesture you see looks more like "what happened?" than "play on". Watch where his eyes are

@KalahadF @DFauxy There's absolutely an objective standard... It's a pretty stupid standard but it clearly exists. One was falling to the ground as part of the act of catching. The other caught it with his feet in the ground and tucked it while being tackled.

@DFauxy There is no objective standard at that point. That "feels" like a catch and the other doesn't is the defense. Subjective calls based on feelings will always lead to this situation when they decide a game and the NFL has very involved gambling partners.

He has two feet down with possession, doesn’t make a third act, doesn’t survive the ground with the ball in his hands. Should’ve been a turnover based on what I’ve been told a thousand times over the last 24 hours!

The more I watch it, the more I’m leaning towards this being a catch by Cooks. Knee/hip/shoulder down before the ball is ripped away. If you can’t rip the ball away from the RB after he hits the ground, why can you do it to a WR? I’m genuinely torn on this one.
