This is one of the rarest machines in my collection, a CADO CAT made by CADOSYSTEMS in Torrance CA in the 1980’s. It supported 4 simultaneous users on an 8 bit 8085A processor and 16KB (not MB or GB, 16 Kilobytes) of RAM using a proprietary operating system. If you have ever seen or worked on a CADOSYSTEMS machine, please drop a comment!

@data_republican I barely interact and have zero reach-incentive to have a blue check, but I pay the $8 to support free speech and the platform.

A blue check mark on X can be obtained for $8 per month. I don't care what I get from X as much as I care about supporting a great company that benefits all who participate. Is $8 too much for that? I'm just curious why everyone who interacts does not pay $8? (*Preparing myself for the backlash.*)

I need to be careful when posting audio related PCB comments. There is a whole synth and digital audio community out there that will mog me.

@blind_via If you'd have told me in 1981 when I started EE at Penn State that FPGAs would eventually be a thing, I might not have changed my major to IT.

I fit all these categories, thinking I should focus my Electrical Engineering studies towards FPGAs. Field programmable gate arrays very different from micro controllers. MCU operate a processor that runs code. FPGAs reconfigure the hardware to match the digital logic you need performed in a fast and efficient way. VERY different animals. Furthermore, FPGAs can be reconfigured in the field and serve more than one purpose at a time for the same device at different times, and that gives me a creative way to exercise 2 skills I already have: digital logic and PCB design. Why FPGA engineers get paid more? FPGA engineers are rare. Not because it’s hard… But because most people quit too early. You need to understand: •digital logic •timing •hardware •debugging without printf

@blind_via We had great fun back in high school plugging big caps directly into the bench AC before the classroom power was turned on.

@blind_via Amazon did just open up a local facility here geared up for same day / next day delivery of over 300K different items in a huge area. (Including 12V SLA batteries.) Not in any way disagreeing with your premise, it's just no wonder local stores can't keep their heads above water.

Almost nobody understands how American taxes actually work. Even the IRS admits it doesn't know how long the tax code is. And that confusion isn't just annoying — it's the single best weapon politicians have to mislead you. Our new video separates fact from fiction.

@blind_via My daughter, who I first introduced to computing on a Mac 128K pre-kindergarden, is well into her 40s now. Kids who are ahead of the curve often turn out awesome. :) Congrats.

Let my kids stay up late, because they have no school. Went to go tell them to go to bed, and they already put themselves to bed. 😎

@blind_via I etched my first PCBs with Radio Shack PCB etchant 50 years ago. Everyone would benefit from learning that kind of patience. Thank you for sharing your experience with the next generation.

Young PCB guys raging so hard at the old guys. We have patience. Learn patience and it will benefit you a lot. Those of you not raging and legit interested in listening. I love you. I wouldn't try as hard as I do if it wasn't for you being here, and so many of you telling me so

1961 EF-140 kit by General Electric. The GE Project 4 Model No. EF-140 was General Electric's "new concept in introducing transistor electronics to America's youth". Original price was $29.29. This was a do-it-yourself kit, no soldering required. It used 4 "D" size batteries.

Connecting with your feed has introduced me to lots of other awesome inventor feeds, and also a lot of PCB knowledge I wish I had when it still mattered. It'll still help my personal projects, but it won't change the world like it might have a few years ago. But maybe it will for someone out there. 🫶
