@tybuttrey_ People can’t understand waking away from money to follow your passions (for potentially less money) until they are almost in the grave. You just happened to make the realization sooner than most. What people hate in you is what is missing in them.

The craziest thing, after reflecting back on my decision to retire from the MLB early due to being burned out and my heart not being in it, was I legitimately thought I was doing a good thing for the club and for baseball. Why have a player on the team whose heart isn’t fully in it? It seemed unauthentic and disingenuous to continue doing something that I didn’t love 100%. The amount of hate and dissatisfaction I received from people, including those I really respected, was crazy. It goes to show how fake and full of putting “on a show” this world is. People would rather you lie to yourself daily and to others than speak the truth.
