Here is my full review of episode 1 of Steel Ball Run: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure:
Pacing: Starting with the weakest aspect of episode 1. Ever since it was revealed episode 1 would adapt the entire 1st Stage I was worried about how quickly they'll have to rush through the first act of the series. Now that the episode released, I can say that my worries were largely justified.
While I would say they largely succeeded, there were a ton of content cuts from the manga. Some cuts I understand but some were really strange and I hope they're just moved to future episodes. Specifically, Sandman's entire motivation for joining the race was cut from the start, as well as Steven Steel explaining Sandman's running style. They also cut Lucy's age being stated.
I hope the pacing slows down substantially in future episodes to keep the charm of the original work, but we'll see how it goes.
Animation: I was blown away at how well David Production animated this first chunk of SBR. While there were some rough shots from time to time, the amount of actual character moving and acting, as well as real horse racing animation and dramatic transitions were outstanding.
In addition, the CG usage was easily the best JoJo has ever had. There was a large amount of CG animation for the race segments, and barely any of them were noticeable to be not hand-drawn. There was one CG bit at the very start of the race that looked rough, but once the action kicked off, it looked great.
Voice acting: With virtually none of the ASB/EoH voice actors returning to voice the SBR cast, the new actors had big shoes to fill. I'd say they absolutely delivered. I really like the new voice cast for the main cast. Kenta Miyake as Steven Steel was especially hilarious with his vocal range. Gyro's new actor Yohei Azakami is much more suave than the games' Shin-Ichiro Miki, which I like.
Story and Direction: Episode 1 adapted SBR at what I'd say is its weakest part. This isn't to say the story is bad or anything, but compared to later arcs it's less interesting. However, the anime's direction and passion really elevated the excitement and tension of this first story arc, and made me appreciate it a lot more. Direction wise, there were a lot of really cool transition shots and creative layouts that weren't in the original manga.
Seeing the JoJo anime deviate from the manga and improve on it is a massive breath of fresh air after the hyper-manga accuracy Stone Ocean had.
In Conclusion: "Steel Ball Run" is a fantastic start to what will most likely be JoJo's biggest season yet, and I am extremely excited to see what future episodes have in store for us.
Final Score: 9/10.

@bamfypoo @FireLunar_ While it’s true for the most important scenes, some of the scenes can only happen in context… nothing game changing but it’s still a shame
English

@FireLunar_ i heard theyre moving scenes around, not cutting them completely

@MalchiorDagon @KaijuCooper If it’s the only time the character realistically will be put into animation isn’t it just all the more reason to keep him accurate for the fans

@KaijuCooper Those are never going to be adapted. As far as the show is concerned, he is just another dude

@nowonvide0 @SSlayer456 @H3arY0uMe @KratosClaire Books have pages simply because it’s an efficient way to contain the words, turning the page is very rarely designed to be part of the experience. Video games are designed with you pressing the buttons in mind.
English

@SSlayer456 @H3arY0uMe @KratosClaire the only real difference between an audiobook and a physical book is the act of turning the pages and reading the words on the page
the only real difference between playing a game and watching a playthrough is pressing the buttons and controlling the character yourself
