@ClarkeMicah @AlastairGi1990 At the conclusion of the Napoleonic Wars, UK debt stood at over 200% of GDP - twice what it is today. ... Were we as significant economically & politically as the Spanish Netherlands in the years that followed, Peter ? ... Methinketh not.

.@alastairgi1990. No, the fundamental problem is that we are as politically and economically important as Belgium - yet deluded fantasists, such as you, still think we are a great power. We still haven't paid off our vast WW1 debt to the USA. We can't.
Alastair@AlastairGi1990

@ClarkeMicah Inefficiency is only a small part of the story. Our defence budget is tiny relative to what is required for serious capability. Yes, bad decisions have been made, industrial procurement is a problem, etc. The fundamental problem is a lack of money.

@tonyblackburn They're planning on landing next time - in a re-usable Starship. SpaceX has a longer development arc & should be readiy to deploy (with refuellers), in orbit, awaiting Artemis III. It's a long term programme to build lunar infrastucture via Starship/Blue Origin, ..... Nicey.

I remember watching the first man on the moon landing some 50years ago which was very exciting as this new mission is. Can anyone tell me why it is that they are not actually going to land on the moon but circle round it. It’s not a criticism I’m just interested to know why they are not actually going to land on the moon.

Every Sunday we would come to this house to visit my nan and grandad in Prestatyn. They’d make us the best roast dinner EVER! I’d run into the kitchen, he’d be there cutting the turkey. We would go for a walk along the beach after lunch, then fall asleep on the sofa in the lounge with the sun beaming through, we’d play cards, watch LFC, until it was time for Bullseye, The Antique’s Roadshow and Last of the Summer Wine, then we’d say goodbye, drive back home to Chester, dreading school the next day. At the time I thought those days would last forever. Last wk I went to visit a customer in Prestatyn and found myself just sitting outside again, just remembering them and picturing their faces. Life is so precious.

I don’t understand this Scott Mills scandal. He was investigated by police 10yrs ago over alleged offences 25+ years ago, but no action was taken and case was closed. Now he gets instantly fired over same thing? The BBC needs to explain why, surely?

@Artemisapphire Eat lots of Marmite as well, Tansy (if you don't hate it). Vitamin B12 & folic acid, which Marmite is rich in, are essential to absorb iron.

He doesn't think the Menorrhagia was caused by anything serious, and has signed me off for an initial two weeks off work and thinks it likely that will be extended Thinks the anemia was the problem and the work stress and menorrhagia basically tipped me over the edge End/n

Update Went to GP Walked in, he took one look at me and was "JFC, you're anaemic!" So apparently I was borderline clinically anemic and he was horrified hospital didn't send me for a transfusion last week Took blood for emergency analysis there and then 1/n

So not feeling amazingly better Not nearly fainting every time I stand up, feel 1.5% more energy, and given even hospitalised iron deficiency (I prob really should've called 999 last week) takes 2wks to even START to feel an improvement, I think I'm being too impatient

The actor, Eddie Marsden appearing on the BBC. Talking about too much 'trickle down economics' and that we need a much greater redistribution of wealth. Does acting school dedicate a semester studying economics, globalisation or monetary policy? Why do we need an actor's input?

🚨 THIS IS DEREK OSBOURNE — former Leader of Kingston upon Thames Council and a man who was **actively involved** in setting up and overseeing **Achieving for Children**. While he sat on the Achieving for Children committee in 2012 — the very body responsible for merging and running children’s services across Kingston & Richmond, safeguarding thousands of vulnerable kids — he was secretly downloading, **making** and **distributing** **THOUSANDS** of the most depraved child abuse images. In 2013 he pleaded guilty to 17 charges: • 7 counts of **making** indecent images of children • 4 counts of **possession** of indecent images • 6 counts of **distributing** indecent images He was jailed for **2 years**. The court described the material as “truly appalling”, including rape and extreme abuse. This is not a “mistake”. This is a man in a position of **power over children’s services** who was consuming the very evil he was supposed to protect kids from. How was this allowed? Who else knew? What else has been covered up? The survivors of Grafton Close and every other abused child in these boroughs deserve the full truth. No more protection for the powerful. No more secrets. #DerekOsbourne #AchievingForChildren #KingstonCouncil #RichmondCouncil #ChildAbuse #GraftonCloseScandal #BolamTest #AccountabilityNow #ChildSafeguardingFail

The death of Harthacnut, king of England between 1040-1042 "In the year 1042, Harthacnut, king of the English, was present at a banquet, at which Osgod Clapa, a man of high rank, was marrying his daughter Gyta, to Tuvy, a Dane, and a very influential man, at a place which is called Lambeth while in merry mood, and in perfect health and good spirits, he was enjoying the hilarity of the nuptials by the side of the bride, and standing up, was drinking to certain men, he suddenly fell to the earth with a dreadful shock, and remaining speechless, expired on the sixth day before the ides of July, being the third day of the week, and being carried to Winchester, was buried near king Canute, his father."

@ClarkeMicah @Cotic They're useful if you live in the country and are unfit due to old age related health conditions. I live in a hilly area and could only cycle up any gradient for more than 100 metres with electric assistance. When it's on a flat or downhill part, then I can turn it off.

.@cotic To what are electric bikes and scooters a solution? They are not green, they are not healthy, they are unsafe for their riders and anyone who gets in their way. All they 'solve' is the coming collapse in public transport.
Cotic@Cotic

@ClarkeMicah We can push for a better tech solution. It would hardly cost anything to add a gps and processor to force speed based on position, so could even force them to slow down on corners. This would be good for cars too. I think more public bikeparks and racing circuits needed.

Walking down the street to Berkley Square last night I note there is showroom for the Chinese car giant BYD and dominating their windows is a sign saying Motorbility. Why on earth are we encouraging our taxpayer-funded benefit claimants to buy a car made by our Communist enemies? If the car isn’t made here, employing our workers and our skills, we should not allow them on the Motorbility scheme.

Yesterday's Britain, A Better Britain.
I was a kid when playing on the estate where I lived was the norm. Summer was for riding my bike and playing in the garden. A trip to the seaside was like a big lottery win. I'd drink coke and eat crisps in the pub garden whilst my parents sometimes had a drink in a pub. Sunday lunchtime was when we all sat around the dining table. Saturdays meant a trip into town to do some shopping. Television was worth watching. There were very few cars parked in my street. Doctors would make house calls. No-one had a cheeseburger 🍔 delivered to their homes. Music 🎶 was great. I played football ⚽️ in the park with my brother. We didn't carry knives with us when we went to school. Fish and chips were affordable. Newspapers were worth reading. Cadbury's chocolate was delicious. Easter didn't offend people. Mail was delivered twice a day. We said please and thank you. CHAVS and hoodies didn't exist. Money went further. When it was hot outside it was because the sun was shining, and not global warming. We put all of our rubbish in one metal dustbin. Britain was British. I could go on, but I think you get what I'm trying to say...
