@grosslessm29726 @BobbyWKenobi He did say "it's canon in that it takes place on the day of reckoning in Raccoon City," (in an IGN video doing commentary on the trailer). He's using "canon" very loosely, but him using the word at all has confused a number of people.

This right here is why you can’t adapt RE into a proper Live action. The game, it’s fine, in movie form, it’s corny as fuck.

When you put the game and movie side by side like this, you can see why re-adapting it would feel redundant. Maybe a fresh take is the real risk worth taking. The real question is: are fans ready for something completely new?

@RichardEmbree I gotcha. I'm one of those goofballs who regularly buys $30 Blu-rays of no-budget shot-on-video horror movies that got almost zero distribution 30-40 years ago.
So I guess I just don't think about price. At least, not as much as I maybe should.

Some people like the types of movies that inspired the first Resident Evil.
For the record, I want Zach Cregger's movie AND an adaptation of the first game. Two different things. I want them both.

Remember how horrible the voice acting and script was for Resident Evil One? Yeah, I don’t want to pay $18 to watch that in 4k… Sometimes making a movie the exact same as the game is not a good idea.

@CreepyCatalog @fadetokat If he didn't need to go out of his way to contradict the movie he didn't or at least felt he didn't which is why he said what he said. It's the best possible thing or hope he could give fans when it comes to a movie that isn't directly adapting a story from the games.

The movie takes place on the first day of the outbreak, it's also been stated that the movie takes place during the events of RE2. Leon doesn't show up in Racoon city on the first day of the outbreak.

It's funny that you mention Thor though, since the first Thor movie was directed by the well-respected and Oscar nominated Kenneth Branagh.

Ari Aster is so far beyond this stuff it’s like saying Scorsese should direct the next Thor. However, he would definitely make a very entertaining and funny Silent Hill
