Resident Evil and many other games used Fixed Camera in unique and creative ways. Let's talk about it. Video below... Thank you @MrMidnai for pushing me to finally do this one.

Bloober Team desperately needs to hire an editor or at least someone to bonk the devs on the head and say "Stop. That's enough". The biggest weakness of both Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos is the terrible pacing. Neither of them justify their 18-20 hour length

@XenobiaExe Only if you're rushing maybe. And if 10-12 hours is "rushing", that kinda proves the point.

How about a new 15 minute video dedicated to the awesomeness of fixed camera games? "Isn't that all of your videos?" Shutup. And yes.

@ChoctopusYT The real issue is that often, publishers don’t make the originals readily available, hence the feeling of replacement. Yeah there’s emulation, but it took years for RE1-3 to be easily accessible on PC and that was only cause GOG fought for them. Silent Hill 1-3 still aren’t.

Remakes are a great way to capture a new audience. IMO they do not replace originals and, in MOST cases, I think people would agree they just co-exist alongside originals. I'm all for experiencing a game the way it was originally intended but technology has advanced. Stop gatekeeping and try to keep the conversation going. "Oh, you've only played the remake? If you liked it, you should check out the original. The controls are a bit dated but..." etc.

@SynthPotato Maybe I should have worded it differently and just said I’m tired of seeing the genre from this angle 🤷🏼I understand it works and each game has its own stuff going on, but in recent years when a new AAA survival horror is announced and it’s OTS again, I roll my eyes a little.

None of these games feel even remotely the same. Camera angle is not even close to being the deciding factor in games feeling similar, if that was the case, then you somehow think RE2R feels the same as The Division 2 or Uncharted 4 Don’t get why these arguments even exist.
Critical Nobody@Crit_Nobody

Disregarding their individual quality; is anyone else tired of AAA survival horror games feeling the same? Publishers saw the success of RE2R and copied it which makes the genre blend together. Indie fills the void, but I'm craving some high budget fixed camera angles man

@SlySinatraa Alan Wake is action no doubt. I’d call TEW survival horror but it’s kinda of hybrid of both? It’s certainly rooted in the traditions and mechanics on the genre, though leans more into action as it goes on.

@Crit_Nobody To jump a bit forward, would you consider the first Alan Wake game and the first Evil Within action horror or survival horror?

@halcyonorder AW1 was not survival horror. If was an action shooter with supernatural elements. AW2 certainly was though and its gameplay was heavily inspired by RE2R. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, seeing the same POV in the genre over and over has gotten tiring to me

@Crit_Nobody Alan Wake 2 feels very different to play. Alan Wake 1 didn't have fixed camera angles and that predates the RE remakes by a lot of years.

Seems I should have said “feeling similar” instead of “the same”. Sure each game shown has their own mechanics too, but they are all built on the OTS framework. We see and interact with their worlds from the same POV and it makes the overall genre feel repetitive, in AAA anyway

@Dantethebanned2 Well two of them are directly related (RE 1 and it’s sequel), Silent Hill had both dynamic angles and a camera that followed you through fully 3D environments, and Fatal Frame had the unique FP mechanic of the Camera Obscure. They felt fundamentally different from one another
