Andrew lore time, I have a tattoo of a robin on my right arm to remind me of my Grandma D. I lived with her since literally the day I turned 18 until I was 26, and anytime Robins were in the yard, I’d hear in a high pitched voice exclaim with joy “Look at the robinnns” In her later years in life our roles would switch, she went from being my pseudo- parent to me becoming her caretaker. It’s that transition that eventually guided me to becoming a nurse. Even in the last years of her life, I would still drive her to her medical appointments and she would always see robins and say, you guessed it “Look at the robinnns” Since I’ve started writing five years ago, I write a lot of my pieces in my car on breaks from work. Often, including today, I’ll hit send and after being lost in a screen for an hour or more. I’ll look up from the phone and see one robin looking directly at me, then as quickly as I notice it, it flies away. “Look at the robin” I’ll always say it out loud no matter what.
