One thing that never made sense to me in medical school was Distinction viva. Why do I have to come back and prove to the department that I merit to have an A on paper? And if I don't impress you enough, you will now step down my score from 70+ to 69.9999 Omo thank God they didn't call me for any one sha, because God in heaven knows that I won't attend the viva, at least I can sleep well knowing that an invitation for distinction viva means I have passed that exam😂😂😂

NARD LEADERSHIP MET HEALTH MINISTERS TO FINALIZE PAYMENT PROCESS FOR MONETARY WELFARE PACKAGES Good evening Distinguished NARDITES! As part of the unwavering commitment of the P-MUS-led NARD NOC to the welfare of Nigerian Resident Doctors, the leadership of NARD held strategic engagements with the Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, to finalize the process for the payment of outstanding welfare packages due to our members. Discussions centered on the immediate disbursement of the 2026 MRTF, as well as cash backing for promotion arrears and outstanding salary arrears affecting our members in FMC Owo, OAUTHC, UUTH, and FUHSTH Otukpo. The NARD leadership also appreciated the Ministry for transmitting the list of eligible Resident Doctors for the 2026 MRTF to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and subsequently to IPPIS in a timely and record manner. In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of State appreciated the constructive engagement with NARD and assured the leadership that the payment processes for the 2026 MRTF, promotion arrears, and salary arrears would be expedited. The P-MUS-led NARD NOC appreciates the patience and understanding of all members and appeals for continued calm while the leadership sustains its engagement with the Government until all outstanding welfare issues are fully resolved. FROM THE NARD PRESIDENT’S DESK Distinguished NARDites, The Extraordinary Session of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors met on Saturday 27th June, 2026 to deliberate on pending National and many sub-National issues affecting NARDites. Particularly concerning on the Agenda are the following items:- 1. Assault on Doctors and other Health Workers 2. ⁠Persistent Salary and Arrears payment delay for House Officers 3. ⁠2026 MRTF 4. ⁠19 Months PAT Arrears 5. ⁠Promition Arrears of 62 Federal Tertiary Centres 6. ⁠Salary Areears of OAUTHc Ile Ife, UUTH Uyo, FMC Owo, FUHSTH Otukpo 7. ⁠Outstanding Payment of 25/35% CONMESS Arrears omission 8. ⁠Demands from OAUTHc Ile Ife and LUTH Idi Araba 9. ⁠Call meal issues across several centres, particularly LUTH NEC is absolutely dismayed by the inability of the Federal Government to ensure a smooth salary payment circle and arrears clearance for House Officer. The system must be held to account on this matter. In Particular, the NEC noted it may revisit and expunge Past Presidents of ARD from our ROLL OF HONOR who engage in acts of victimization and intimidation against NARDites as is the case in OAUTHc. A fundamental question NEC asked was why hospitals in today’s Nigeria are refusing (and posturing to refuse) to provide call meals to Doctors and other health workers who take calls. This is a right current Chief Executives of Hospitals enjoyed themselves as Residents, especially that those who take calls are major drivers of revenue in our Hospitals today. After extensive deliberations, and while noting progress on a few of the items above, the NARD NEC resolved to extend the Ultimatum to the JULY NEC MEETING holding in Gombe State from 26th to the 31st of July 2026. NEC is hereby appealing to NARDites to continue to exercise patience and understanding with the NOC as we navigate this last window to resolve all outstanding matters. Let us go about our normal duties with diligence and pride. The NEC in Session charged the NOC to continue to pursue all these items and engage all relevant stakeholders. Failure to address these issues satisfactorily will only lead to a definite INDUSTRIAL ACTION by the next review. Meanwhile, the NOC has been empowered to reconvene the Session of NEC at the slightest hint of deterioration in any aspects of our legitimate demands. One thing I’ve told my friends and those close to me has been “Any-day I step into residency, I’d have sat down and made hard conclusions before stepping in” so I don’t throw my job to people or expect them to break their back like some of my chiefs expected of me back then as a HO. That’s how during Ortho rotation, we stayed in the hospital from 8AM till 1AM the next morning doing surgery. And when the surgery was done, conso and everybody drove home and said I should go sit with patient. I went home too cos there’s a HO on call. So why punish me to stay back after how many hours without a proper meal. The SR came the next day and was complaining that I was lazy. So yes, any elder trying to justify suffering is toxic abeg.

My uncle, who is a doctor, stopped at a popular restaurant in Lagos to buy a plate of food. As he was about to pay, the owner of the restaurant suddenly collapsed. People started shouting and running around in panic. My uncle immediately stepped in, gave him first aid, and helped rush him to the hospital. The man survived. Everyone praised my uncle for saving his life. About a month later, my uncle returned to the restaurant. The owner saw him, smiled, and came over to greet him warmly. My uncle thought the man wanted to thank him again. Instead, the owner said: "Doctor, the last time you came here, you didn't pay for your food." My uncle was speechless. This was the same food he abandoned while trying to save the man's life. He quietly paid for the meal and left. Since that day, he has never stepped into that restaurant again.
