For everyone who says the Jazz can’t take Boozer because it would mean they have to trade Lauri. What happens with Ace if the Jazz draft Darryn Peterson?

I’m a business guy. I read between the lines. The Mormon Stories podcast has been in operation for over a decade. It helps questioning people. The LDS church recently sued them for their use of the word “Mormon” I thought “Mormon” wasn’t allowed? And why not sue Secret Live?

So far, LDS apologists Hayden Carroll (backed out), Luke Hanson (ghosted), and Robert Boylan (refused) have evaded a debate with @emuse1955 on the character of Joseph Smith. In fact, it seems that LDS apologists have conspired to label such a debate a "gish-gallop" (that term is conspicuously showing up everywhere online) despite being explicitly offered to sufficiently narrow the topic. Why? In the words of Hayden, "It’s the basis for your entire worldview, so surely it is worth defending."

“Mormon magic underwear.” That’s the phrase people throw around. It gets laughs. It gets clicks. But it’s also a perfect example of how Mormonism is being treated right now, mocked instead of understood. So I’m starting a short series. Not to defend it. Not to attack it. But to deal with it honestly. Let’s talk about what that actually is. Among members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the proper name is the temple garment, or garment of the holy priesthood. It is a sacred item tied to covenants made in their temples. Historically, this garment was introduced by Joseph Smith in the 1840s, particularly in Nauvoo. Early versions were very different from what is worn today. They were one-piece garments, extending from wrists to ankles. Those early garments included specific markings sewn into the fabric. That continues today in a simplified form. You’ll typically find markings over the chest, near the navel, and at the knee. In LDS teaching, these point to obedience, sacrifice, and remembrance of covenants. Over time, the garment has changed. It moved from a single piece to two pieces. Materials and cuts have been updated. More recently, there has been internal discussion because newer designs allow different fits, especially for women, including cuts that work with modern clothing. Now here’s where we need to slow down. Christians have no ground to mock sacred clothing. We have our own. Think of the scapular worn by the faithful, resting against the skin as a sign of devotion. Think of the vestments a priest puts on before the liturgy, each piece received with prayer. These are not costumes. They are outward signs of inward realities. The same principle is at work here, even if we disagree with the theology behind it. So critique the theology. Be honest about the differences. But mocking what people hold sacred without understanding it is not strength. It’s just noise.

People ask why I’m not more “polite” with Mormons or why I don’t use their full name. There’s a strong push to drop “Mormon” and say “Church of Jesus Christ.” Words shape perception. The more you hear “Jesus Christ,” the more it feels familiar. Mormonism is not Christianity. Good people, real charity, but a different faith. I don’t want to blur that line.

Bear with me on this one, it is a bit lengthy. In 1830, Joseph Smith dictated many of his fictional stories to a scribe, sprinkled in biblical plagiarism, and a rudimentary use of Elizabethan, to create his biggest con, a counterfeit version of the Bible. I think it's appropriate to call it fool's gold, considering the golden plates were imaginary. How do we know for certain it was all a sham? There are hundreds of modern words mixed in with the supposedly ancient text that would be considered anachronistic. Let's look at the first handful of chapters in Alma for a small sample size. This is one hundred years before Christ and blind LDS members consider all these things prophetic, but it was just Joseph Smith using a Bible while writing his fanfiction. 1. Judgement seat 1:2 (New Testament) 2. Preaching 1:3 (New Testament) 3. A church is mentioned many times 1:3 (New Testament) 4. Popular 1:3 (No biblical reference - 15th century Latin) 5. Mankind should be saved 1:4 (New Testament) 6. False doctrines 1:16 (New Testament) 7. Taken upon them the name of Christ 1:19 (Acts) 8. Stand fast on the faith 1:25 (New Testament) 9. Communal church 1:27 (New Testament) 10. Respecter of persons 1:30 (New Testament) 11. Dark skin cursed by God 3:6 (Heresy) 12. Baptized in water 4:4 (New Testament) 13. Industry 4:6 (No biblical reference - 15th century Latin) 14. Elders in the church 4:7 (New Testament) 15. Deliverance from death by the power of Jesus Christ 4:13 (New Testament) 16. Born of God 5:14 (New Testament) 17. Garments made white through the blood of Christ 5:27 (New Testament) 18. Kingdom of heaven is at hand (New Testament) 19. Good Shepherd dialogue 5:38 (John 10) 20. Only begotten of the Father 5:48 (New Testament) 21. Cometh to take away the sins of the world 5:48 (New Testament) 22. Who believes on His name 5:48 (New Testament) 23. You must be born again 5:49 (New Testament) 24. Axe is laid at the root of the tree; every tree that bringeth forth not good fruit shall be hewn down and tossed into the fire 5:52 (John the Baptist's speech) 25. (Also, he later styles this book like a Pauline epistle.) Friends, please help the LDS crowd wake up from their slumber. They have been deceived in these Last Days and I believe it's high time these captives were set free. Lord have mercy on the Mormons!

What I don’t get about this argument from an LDS perspective is…who are these other gods worthy of our worship? I think it’s terrible apologetics because it infers there are other big G Gods in the universe — despite you yourself having the position that the Godhead has been God for all eternity. Are you suggesting Baal is a legitimate god?

@ingram3000 I would clarify and say that LDS requires obedience as a condition of exaltation (to any level of glory. But ultimately to be as close ti Heavenly Father as is possible). I recognize that LDS doctrine teaches that the atonement is for all persons who have a mortal probation.

@conservmillen I appreciated the way you let him speak but also exposed the key differences-which Mormons try to hide so they can fool Christians. I do wish you would have discussed Rev 22:18-19 and Galatians 1:8-9 which clearly call any addition or “new revelation” to be accursed.

I had no idea LDS members would balk at this very basic, central belief about hell, heaven, and who goes where. Yes, all Christians believe in hell and that we deserve to go there. That’s the bad news. The good news is, through Christ, we can be saved from hell and instead spend eternity with him. This is not accomplished through ordinances, church membership, or claims of apostolic succession, but through Jesus’s sacrifice alone. The good news is that there is nothing you can or must do to earn your way into God’s Presence. Rather, Jesus’s blood is sufficient in making us clean and acceptable before God. You are free to believe that access to eternity with Jesus can only be accomplished through following LDS ordinances, and that non-LDS members will only have a degree of glory (but not God’s presence) in the afterlife. It’s just not a Christian belief. For a believer in Christ, there is nothing good about the news that we non-Mormons will live forever in a “better place” but without the presence of Jesus. That is not heaven. Jesus is the prize! And our place with Him is secured by grace through faith in Him. Hallelujah! “For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” Romans 10:13
