The footage captures the moment when an officer from the Butler Township Police Department attempted to reach the roof, where the suspected gunman was located. Another officer assisted in lifting him after rally attendees alerted the police to an individual on the roof near the rally site where Trump was scheduled to speak. Officers described Crooks as having glasses, long hair, a backpack, and an AR-15 rifle. After Crooks was taken out by a Secret Service Countersniper team, there was confusion on why the roof where Crooks was perched was unmanned.
