FWIW, Pakistan is a difficult country. I don’t like its obsessive hatred of Israel. But over-reacting to a deranged tweet by one minister is unhelpful and an inaccurate reading of how power works in Pakistan.

This contrast deserves a serious attention. If there is opposition to paying electricity bills and concerns are being raised over proper billing, how is such a large amount being mobilized at the same time for an international cause? Helping people in crisis reflects humanity and empathy, and that should be respected. But alongside empathy comes civic responsibility. Electricity, roads, transport, and public infrastructure run on taxpayer money. These systems survive only when citizens also contribute fairly. The real issue, therefore, is not donation versus no donation, but whether public duty and humanitarian concern can go together. Can a society show generosity for global causes while also fulfilling its responsibility towards its own public systems? That is the real question.
