13 years ago I mined Bitcoin at home in Venezuela to protect my family's wealth and escape a broken system. Today our country is reopening itself to the world. And the opportunity is bigger than most people realize. We have 36 GW of installed capacity, while historical peak national demand was 17 GW. We're also flaring away over $2B worth of gas across the Orinoco Belt. Last week, OFAC issued license 48A, allowing American companies to generate, distribute, store, and sell electricity in Venezuela. This is signal that American Bitcoin mining companies can enter the market! Miners, private capital, no state debt, zero new sovereign borrowing can help us finance, balance and rebuild our National Electrical System (SEN). We also have the potential of importing @CrusoeAI's model to monetize Venezuela's stranded gas. I'll be on the Energy Stage at Bitcoin 2026 in Las Vegas talking about exactly this: how Bitcoin mining can monetize wasted energy across emerging markets, stabilize broken grids, and generate hard dollar revenue for countries that need it most, like Venezuela. Venezuela is the case study I know personally. The door is open. The licenses exist. The energy is there. The only question is who moves first... Bitcoin mining will come back to Venezuela!

Back today after being out of commission for a while. I lost my dad about 10 days ago. We were close. I knew the day would come, he was declining health-wise, but it didn't soften the blow. But he lived a full life and we spent good time together recently and that is comforting.

Ledn's CEO @adamreeds thinks Bitcoin will back your mortgage one day. "We put bitcoin in Fidelity as the custodian. So they're familiar with Fidelity as a name." "It was just Bitcoin as the asset that was new. And again they have the backup of S&P global that they can rely on." "We see this developing residential mortgages, where there's hundreds of billions of dollars happening every year." @hodlwithLedn @blockspace

I appreciate you sharing that with everyone. My wife and I have been doing some research into the different BTC loan options that are available and the best way to learn about them is from people who share their experiences. Have you tried any other lenders? Back in the day we used Blockfi for one. Thankfully we were in and out before the collapse. But, it still send tingles down my spine thinking about what using BTC as collateral, especially with the wrong company, could mean if things go wrong.

I experimented with a Bitcoin backed loan of $15 on Coinbase and I didn’t like it… Turns out when you lock up your Bitcoin as collateral and get USDC to spend you can’t sell your collateral to pay off the loan. Meaning, that you have to put more money in (the amount of the loan) to unlock your Bitcoin. So if you had $1 million of Bitcoin locked up as collateral and took out a $400,000 to spend on something else…. You’d have to put $400,000 of cash back into Coinbase to unlock the $1 million of Bitcoin. I thought you could just sell the collateral bitcoin and come out with $600,000 of Bitcoin and the loan paid off. I don’t like the process and the experiment was a failure. So I put more cash back in to unlock the $15 of Bitcoin collateral I had and took my BTC out of Bitcoin and back to the hardware wallet.

Banks judge lending on income, not assets. For self-employed individuals or business owners with Bitcoin, this means being denied loans despite significant wealth. Ledn, however, offers true asset-backed lending, using your Bitcoin as collateral, not credit scores or pay stubs.
