🇺🇸Fabiano Caruana: chess com can do anything to grow at any cost Speaking on his podcast, Fabiano Caruana gave his honest opinion on how chess com used the “anal beads” controversy to grow : “Honestly, I was a bit bothered when Erik said, if I remember correctly, his exact quote was something like: ‘anal beads have been good for our company.’ Something along those lines. I understand that there’s a certain philosophy there, growth at any cost, a pretty typical American approach. I get the logic, but it completely clashes with how I see things. The overall enthusiasm for anything that might increase the company, its valuation, or bring in more users, without really considering how people experience chess, how it looks from the outside, and whether it aligns with the image of the game… especially when you’re already wealthy and the company is already very valuable… But well, I guess it’s just a difference in approaches… let’s agree to disagree.”

There's a war between @TakeTakeTakeApp /@lichess VS @chesscom brewing below the surface. What exactly is the playbook here ? Caruana : "lichess has a very different business model than chesscom, which is much less aimed at trying to make as much money as possible... They cohabited pretty peacefully up until now, so this is a bit of a change. Now it's a bit less peaceful. For me the interesting thing is, from a broadcasting perspective, what will Take Take Take actually broadcast now?"

Did Erdogmus pick Topalov specifically to farm him? Fabiano Caruana: "Topalov was a juicy opponent...he was significantly overrated. When you haven't played for a decade, that's simply the reality of it. You can't keep a top level without playing."

Fabiano Caruana on Magnus' suspicion of Hans: "If we're talking about Magnus' Involvement and culpability...it's clear that it came from a place of genuine suspicion. People might have a problem with that, but honestly you can't really control whether you're suspicious or not. You can control if you act on it, and he did act on it...which caused him more trouble than he probably wanted."

The chesscom thing disconnected me and gave me a 0 point bye in round 8 of their event where only 2 places qualify and everyone is within half a point of each other :) my internet didn't drop out, I was active in the play zone and as soon as the break timer ended it auto forfeits me. Pretty sure I'm not the only one affected by this bug too. It doesn't even give a time penalty, just instantly forfeits you.

No words to describe this tragedy. Danya was one of the most brilliant and talented people I’ve ever met. From his talent and passion over the board, to the witty and charismatic delivery in the commentary booth, Danya could do it all, he was the best at it. Gone too soon. RIP

It's difficult to come to terms with the news we heard yesterday. Danya was so loved in the chess world. He was incredibly talented, as a chess player and also as a teacher, writer, and commentator. His passion for chess shone through when he was commentating and when he was competing. He was full of personality, fiercely intelligent, witty, funny, and most of all very kind and generous. It's impossible to overestimate how many people he affected in the chess world, whether friends, colleagues or people he taught and brought into the game. I still vividly remember our two games from the U.S. Championship, in 2017 and 2021, split one win apiece. I can only wish we would have played more. It feels like yesterday we were playing blitz and other board games in Germany earlier this year, but now also like an eternity ago. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Rest in peace Daniel Naroditsky.
